How to have enough thread when you cast on

In this DROPS video we show an easy way to find out how to have enough thread when you cast up (continental method). Wrap the thread as many times around the knitting needle as many stitch number your work need. Have approx. 10 cm thread end at the beginning to hold on (we also tie a knot to mark exactly how much thread it is left when you finish cast on).

In the video we wrap around/cast on 16 stitches with DROPS Snow from Garnstudio, then 40 stitches with a thinner thread, DROPS Cotton Merino from Garnstudio.

Bonjour Mme Vu, quand une correction a été faite, les explications en ligne sont modifiées et vous retrouvez cette correction sous l'onglet du même nom avec la date de correction. Si le modèle a été imprimé après cette date, le modèle imprimé est correct. Bon tricot!

There are different methods to cast on. In this DROPS video we show one of the most common methods that gives a firm but still elastic edge. It’s called the continental method. In this DROPS video, we show you how to work each front piece with diagonal shoulders and short rows, the piece is worked bottom up. Then we show how to increase stitches for the neckline and join the shoulders for the back piece, then continue working top down. An I-cord band is worked on each side. We have already worked one section of the front piece and decreased stitches for the neckline. The video shows how we work 6 short rows (German short rows) on the right front piece, creating a diagonal shoulder. Then we show how to increase 1 stitch 3 times towards the neckline, which is now the back piece. Then we show the same for the left shoulder and finally cast on 12 stitches between the shoulders before the shoulders are knitted together. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video. This technique is used among other things in pattern DROPS 255-9, Driftwood Vest, with a different stitch count, number of short rows and cast-on stitches.
