See diagrams A.1-A.7. Pattern is worked in stocking st.

PATTERN 1:
1 st red, * 1 st off white, 1 st red *, repeat from *-*.

HEEL DECREASE:

Continue dec like this with 1 st less before every dec until 11-11-13-13-15-17 sts remain on needle.
--------------------------------------------------------

SOCK:
Worked in the round on double pointed needles. Cast on 48-48-60-60-66-66 sts on double pointed needles size 2.5 mm with red. Work in stocking st for 2 cm. Work next round as follows: K 2 tog, 1 YO. K 2 round. Then work pattern and measure piece from here. NOTE! Pattern is different in the different sizes.
Size 26/28 - 29/31 - 32/34:
Work A.3 (= 6 sts) 1 time vertically = 8-8-10 times in width AT THE SAME TIME on last round dec 8-8-10 sts = 40-40-50 sts.

Size 35/37 - 38/40 - 41/43:
Work A.1 (= 6 sts) 1 time vertically = 10-11-11 times in width. Then work A.2 (= 6 sts) 1 time vertically = 10-11-11 times in width – AT THE SAME TIME on last round in A.2 dec 6 sts evenly = 54-60-60 sts. Then work 1 round with red. Work A.3 (= 6 sts) 1 time vertically = 9-10-10 times in width AT THE SAME TIME on last round dec 4-0-0 sts = 50-60-60 sts.

All sizes: Work A.4 (= 10 sts) 1 time vertically = 4-4-5-5-6-6 times in width AT THE SAME TIME on last round dec 0-0-2-2-0-0 sts = 40-40-48-48-60-60 sts. Work A.5, work to arrow for your size (= 4 sts) = 10-10-12-12-15-15 times in width AT THE SAME TIME on last round dec 1-1-0-0-6-3 sts = 39-39-48-48-54-57 sts. Work A.6 (= 3 sts) 1 time vertically = 13-13-16-16-18-19 times in width.
Work 1 round red AT THE SAME TIME inc 3-3-2-2-2-3 sts evenly = 42-42-50-50-56-60 sts. Piece measures approx. 10-11-11-17-17-17 cm. Now keep the first 21-21-23-23-29-33 sts on needle for heel. Slip the remaining 21-21-27-27-27-27 sts on 1 stitch holder = on top of foot. Work PATTERN 1 – see explanation above - back and forth over heel sts for 4½-5-5-5-5½-6 cm. Insert a marker, measure piece from here. Continue pattern 1 AT THE SAME TIME dec for heel - SEE HEEL DECREASE.
After heel dec, pick up 12-13-13-13-14-16 sts on each side of heel and slip the 21-21-27-27-27-27 sts from stitch holder back on needle = 56-58-66-66-70-76 sts.
Insert a marker on each side of the 21-21-27-27-27-27 sts on top of foot. Work next round as follows: Continue pattern 1 over heel as before (= 35-37-39-39-43-49 sts), 1 st off white, A.7 (= 6 sts) over the next 19-19-25-25-25-25 sts (NOTE: Finish with first st in diagram so pattern is the same in both sides), finish with 1 st off white AT THE SAME TIME dec in each side as follows: K the last 2 sts before the 21-21-27-27-27-27 sts on top of foot twisted tog (i.e. work in back loop of st instead of front), and K the first 2 sts after the 21-21-27-27-27-27 sts on top of foot tog. Dec like this every other round 5-5-9-8-8-7 times in total = 46-48-48-50-54-62 sts.
Continue until piece measures 13-14-16-18-19-21 cm from marker on heel (= 4-4-4-5-5-6 cm remain).
Insert 1 marker in each side so that there are 21-21-27-27-27-27 sts on top of foot and 25-27-21-23-27-35 sts under foot. Continue working pattern 1 over all sts while at the same time dec for toes on each side of both markers. Dec as follows before 1 K st and marker: K 2 tog with red. Dec as follows after marker and 1 K st with red: K 2 twisted tog.
Repeat dec in each side every other round 5-5-5-8-8-10 times in total and the every round 4-4-4-1-1-0 times = 10-12-12-14-18-22 sts remain on needle. On next round K all sts tog 2 by 2 with red = 5-6-6-7-9-11 sts. Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining sts, tighten tog and fasten. Fold the cast-on edge at the top of sock, where the row with eyelet holes was worked. Loosely fasten the edge.

Kim 20.11.2015 - 17:49:

Carolyn, I had the same problem until I realized the K2 meant knit two rounds after the eyelet row. I am finding that 66 stitches is quite tight on my leg - hard to pull over my heel. I am going to try it with 72 inches and then add 2 to the deer pattern. Hopefully, that will work out.

Ruth 23.10.2015 - 14:34:

Jeg strikker disse nå i den nest største størrelsen, men det ser ut som de blir veldig trange rundt ankelen og foten? Noen andre med samme erfaring?

Carolyn 09.02.2015 - 18:54:

In working this pattern for Size 7 1/2/9 it seems the casting on 66 stitches is incorrect. When working the eyelet row 66 is not divisible by 4. So when I get to the last k2 tog yo k2, I can only k2 tog. which then leaves me with 65 stitches. What am I doing wrong?

DROPS Design 10.02.2015 kl. 09:03:

Dear Carolyn, you will work the eyelet row over 2 sts: work K2 tog, YO around over the 66 sts (ie a total of 33 times). Happy knitting!

Pat Reddy 13.11.2014 - 23:41:

If my pattern calls for 3mm needles can I use fable please

DROPS Design 14.11.2014 kl. 14:35:

See below - These socks are worked in DROPS Fabel, remember to check your tension and keep it all the work. Happy knitting!

Pat Reddy 13.11.2014 - 23:39:

How would the fable yarn work if my pattern calls for a 3 mm needles please

DROPS Design 14.11.2014 kl. 14:34:

Dear Mrs Reddy, tension to this pattern is 26 sts x 34 rows in st st = 10 x 10 cm, recommanded needle size is only a guide, make a swatch and check your tension, you may have to change to larger needles (if you get too many sts on 10 cm) or to smaller needles (if you get too few sts). Happy knitting!
