HAT:
Garter st, back and forth on needle:
K all rows.
Stripes:
2 rows blue/purple mix
2 rows light beige mix
2 rows medium blue/purple mix
2 rows pink
Tip for changing colours: Do not cut the thread but carry on from previous stripe in same colour. Be careful not to pull thread too tight.

Hat: Worked back and forth on needle.
Cast on 59-61-64 sts on needle size 8 mm with blue/purple mix. Work garter st and stripes - see Stripes and Tip for changing colours. When piece measures 20 cm complete piece in medium blue/purple mix – adjust so that next row is from WS. Now work a double edge (for ribbon) as follows: P 1 row from WS, K 3 rows and then P 1 row from WS. Cast off. Fold edge double at the top towards WS and fasten with neat sts. Sew hat tog mid back inside 1 edge st, but leave an opening in edge to thread the ribbon through.
Ribbon: Cut 2 threads medium blue/purple mix measuring 2 meters each. Twist them until they resist, fold them double and let them twist again. Tie a knot each end. Thread ribbon through edge at the top of hat.

SCARF:
Garter st, back and forth on needle: K all rows.

Scarf: Cast on 20 sts on needle size 9 mm. Work garter st – see above. Remember the knitting tension! After 8 rows cast off the middle 2 sts for buttonhole and cast on 2 new sts on return row. When piece measures 36 cm inc 4 sts evenly on row. Continue in garter st until piece measures 200 cm, and now dec 4 sts evenly on row. When 10 rows remain before finished measurements make buttonhole as described above. Work the last 8 rows and cast off. Scarf measures approx 236 cm.
Pockets: Fold 18 cm double (up to dec/inc 4 sts) in both ends of scarf. Crochet a border through both layers at the sides as follows: 1 dc, * 1 ch, skip 1 cm, 1 dc * repeat from *-*. Cut the thread and fasten ends.
Button covers: Crochet 2 ch on crochet hook size 9 mm.
Now work 6 dc in the first ch and finish with 1 sl st in the first dc (= first round).
Round 2: crochet 2 dc in each dc = 12 dc.
Round 3 and 4: crochet 1 dc in each dc. Round 5: crochet 1 dc in every other dc = 6 dc. Finish with 1 sl st in first dc on round.
Slip button into cover, sew round the edge of cover and tighten thread. Sew on buttons to fit buttonholes.
