Thank you. Still I am unclear how to braid with the six strands. Do you have a video that shows how to make a braid with that many strands. I only know how to brade with three strands. Kind regards, Patti

Dear Patty, you braid it as you would with three strands only each "strand" is made up from multiple threads. Happy Stitching!

Dear Patti, you cut 18 pieces of yarn, and divide them into three bundles, each with 6 strand. Now you braid the three bundle. For sewing I would make a knot to each end, and sew the knot inside the bag. Happy Stitching!

Gauge: 17 sts x 22 rows = 10 x 10 cm on larger needles in stockinette st. Garter st, when knitting flat: Knit all sts, all rows. Sage purse: Cast on 40 sts on smaller needles with sage and knit 2 rows garter st. Change to larger needles and stockinette st as follows: 4 rows sage, 13 cm natural white, 47 cm sage, 13 cm natural white and 4 rows sage. The piece measures approx. 79 cm. Change to smaller needles and knit 2 rows garter st. Bind off, the piece measures approx. 80 cm. Brown/pink purse: Cast on 40 sts on smaller needles with brown heather and knit 2 rows garter st. Change to larger needles and stockinette st in stripes as follows: 9 cm brown heather, 9 cm pink, 1.5 cm natural white, 6 cm brown heather, 1.5 cm natural white, 24 cm brown heather, 1.5 cm natural white, 6 cm brown heather, 1.5 cm natural white, 9 cm pink and 9 cm brown heather. The piece measures approx. 79 cm. Change to smaller needles and knit 2 rows garter st. Bind off, the piece measures approx. 80 cm. Assembly: Fold the purse double and sew sides. Strap: Cut 18 strands sage (for sage purse) or brown heather (for brown/pink purse) each 150 cm long, divide into 3 bundles with 6 strands and braid. The strap will be approx. 100-110 cm long. Sew strap to the inside of each side of the purse. Felt the purse - see instructions below. FELTING: The piece can be felted either in the washing machine or the tumble dryer – read description below. Remember: Subsequent washes are as for a normal wool garment. IN WASHING MACHINE: Washing machines will vary when felting. If the piece is not felted enough, it can be felted again. If it is felted too much, it can be stretched to the correct size while still wet. DO THE FOLLOWING: Lay the piece in the washing machine, using a programme of approx. 40 minutes (not a wool programme). Wash at 40 degrees without pre-wash, detergent is optional. After washing, shape the piece while it is still wet. IN TUMBLE DRYER: Felting in a tumble dryer gives good control over the degree of felting. The tumble dryer can be opened during drying to check the size of the piece. If it is not felted enough it can be thoroughly wetted and felted again. If it is felted too much it can be stretched to the correct size while still wet. DO THE FOLLOWING: Lay the piece in water so it becomes completely wet, then place it in the tumble dryer and begin the drying process. Dry to the desired size, checking regularly. ASSEMBLY: Sew 5 buttons for decoration on each side of the purse, with approx. 2 cm between each button. Sage purse: sew buttons between natural white and sage. Brown/pink purse: sew buttons between brown heather and pink. |
