Hi, Lisa is correct in her comment, row 6 is written as if you have 8 stitches on the needle. The comment replying from drops designs is also wrong and implies 8 stitches on the needle, not 7.

There is an issue with the pattern. On row 6, there isn\'t 3 stitches left over because the stitches will be used up. I tried this several times and I am getting 2 stitches left.

Dear Lisa, the first time you work row 6 you will have to work just one time the part between the *, as you get only 7 sts on the needles: Slip 1, K1, (YO, slip 1 as if to P, K tog YO and st) (you have worked 4 sts, 3 sts are left), finish with YO, slip 1 as if to P and K2. Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- INCREASE 2 STITCHES: All increases are worked from the right side! Knit together the next yarn-over + stitch but do not slip them off the left needle, make 1 yarn over, knit together the yarn-over + stitch 1 more time = 3 stitches (2 increased stitches). Slip the stitches off the left needle. The increased stitches are worked into the English rib. NOTE! On the row after increasing there are no yarn-overs with the increased stitches. DECREASE 2 STITCHES: All decreases are worked from the right side! Work to the 2nd knitted English rib stitch at the beginning of the row. Slip the knitted stitch (+ yarn-over) as if to knit together, knit together the next purled stitch + knitted stitch (+ yarn-over), pass slipped knitted stitch (+ yarn-over) over the knitted together stitches (2 decreased stitches). The marker follows the 2nd knitted English rib stitch onwards (seen from the right side at the beginning of the row). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SHAWL – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth from point to point. Stitches are increased and decreased in English rib. SHAWL: Cast on 5 stitches with circular needle size 5 mm, 1 strand DROPS Flora and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (2 strands). Work back and forth as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit to end of row. ROW 2 (wrong side): Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1, make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, knit 2. ROW 3 (right side): Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1, knit together the next yarn-over + stitch, knit 2. ROW 4 (wrong side): Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1, make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, knit 2. Repeat ROWS 3 and 4 until the piece measures 5½-5 cm, with the next row from the right side. There is 1-1 knitted English rib stitch (seen from the right side). Now increase in the middle stitch as follows: ROW 5 (right side): Work in the same way as ROW 3 but in the middle stitch increase 2 stitches – read INCREASE 2 STITCHES = 7-7 stitches. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. ROW 6 (wrong side): Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1, * make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, knit together the next yarn-over + stitch *, work from *-* until there are 3 stitches left, make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, knit 2. ROW 7 (right side): Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1, * knit together the next yarn-over + stitch, make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise *, work from *-* until there are 3 stitches left, knit together the next yarn-over + stitch and knit 2. There are 2-2 knitted English rib stitches (seen from the right side). Insert 1 marker in the 2nd knitted English rib stitch (seen from the right side). This is now used when increasing. Work ROWS 6 and 7 until the piece measures 5½-5 cm from the previous increase, with the next row from the right side. ROW 8 (right side): Work in the same way as ROW 7 but increase 2 stitches in the marker-stitch = 9 stitches. ROW 9 (wrong side): Work in the same way as ROW 6. There are 3-3 knitted English rib stitches (seen from the right side). Move the marker so it sits in the 2nd knitted English rib stitch (seen from the right side). Work in the same way as ROWS 7 and 6, repeating the increases in the 2nd knitted English rib stitch (seen from the right side) every 5½-5 cm a total of 11-13 times = 27-31 stitches. The piece measures approx. 60-65 cm from the cast-on edge. There are 12-14 knitted English rib stitches (seen from the right side). Work a further 5½-5 cm after the last increase. You now decrease on the same side as you increased, starting with a row from the right side. ROW 10 (right side): Work in the same way as ROW 7 across the first 4 stitches, decrease 2 stitches – read DECREASE 2 STITCHES in explanations above, work to end of row as before. There are 11-13 knitted English rib stitches (seen from the right side). ROW 11 (wrong side): Work in the same way as ROW 6. Work ROWS 7 and 6 until the piece measures 5½-5 cm from the previous decrease. Repeat the decrease in the 2nd knitted English rib stitch (seen from the right side) every 5½-5 cm a total of 10-12 times = 7-7 stitches. There are 2-2 knitted English rib stitches (seen from the right side). Continue working ROWS 7 and 6 until the piece measures 5½-5 cm from the previous decrease. Now decrease as follows: ROW 12 (right side): Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1, DECREASE 2 STITCHES as before across the next 3 stitches, knit 2 = 5-5 stitches. ROW 13 (wrong side): Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1, make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, knit 2. There is 1-1 knitted English rib stitch (seen from the right side). Work in the same way as ROWS 3 and 4 for 5½-5 cm. The piece measures approx. 127-135 cm from the cast-on edge. Cast off. |
