Hi! Sorry for misunderstanding, but what's mean "fasten off" before heel? Do I cut the yarn and then start knitting the heel with colour blue since first stich from 26 of heel?
02.09.2024 - 20:51DROPS Design answered:
Dear Lucy, you have now to cut and weave both yarns. You will now work (in the first size) the first 13 sts + the last 13 sts of the round for the heel (the beg of rounds are now on mid back = in the middle of these 26 sts). Happy knitting!

Hi! I've been trying to understand how is the number of stitches calculated, as I am trying to adjust to my knitting tension. Can you please advise? Thank you.
08.01.2024 - 21:11DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Avram, these socks are worked with a tension of 26 sts x 34 rows stocking stitch = 10 x 10 cm with larger needles, this might help you to adjust to your own tension . Happy knitting!

---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- HEEL DECREASE: ROW 1 (= right side): Knit until 6-7-7 stitches remain, slip next stitch as if to knit, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch knitted, turn piece. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl until 6-7-7 stitches remain, slip next stitch as if to purl, purl 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch purled, turn piece. ROW 3 (= right side): Knit until 5-6-6 stitches remain, slip next stitch as if to knit, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch knitted, turn piece. ROW 4 (= wrong side): Purl until 5-6-6 stitches remain, slip next stitch as if to purl, purl 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch purled, turn piece. Continue decrease like this with 1 stitch less before each decrease until there are 16-16-18 stitches on needle. STRIPES: Work * 2 rounds with colour ocean view, 2 rounds in colour off white *, work from *-*. TIPS FOR STRIPES - transition without notches: To get a nicer transition at the beginning and end of round when working stripes, work as follows: Switch to new colour and work 1 round. On next round work first stitch as follows: Lift the stitch under first stitch on left needle (lift the stitch in back loop) and slip this stitch on left needle. Then knit this stitch together with next stitch on left needle. This way the transition will be less visible. DECREASE TIP (applies to decrease for toes): Begin 3 stitches before marker, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker is between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). Repeat at the other marker. ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- SOCKS - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Worked in the round on double pointed needles from leg down to toe. LEG: Cast on 84-98-112 stitches on double pointed needles size 2.5 mm with colour off white in DROPS Fabel. Work picot edge as follows: * Work 3 stitches in stocking stitch, pass 2nd stitch on right needle over outermost stitch on right needle (over the last stitch worked), pass next stitch on right needle over outermost stitch on right needle (= 2 stitches decreased = 1 picot), work 7 stitches in stocking stitch, pass 2nd stitch on right needle over outermost stitch on right needle, pass next stitch on right needle over outermost stitch on right needle (= 2 stitches decreased = 1 picot), work 4 stitches in stocking stitch *, work from *-* the entire round = 60-70-80 stitches. Then work rib (= knit 1/purl 1) for 4 cm. When rib is done, knit 1 round while decreasing 4-10-14 stitches evenly = 56-60-66 stitches. Switch to double pointed needles size 3 mm. Now work STRIPES – read explanation above, and read TIPS FOR STRIPES. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When piece measures 8 cm from cast-on edge, decrease 2-2-4 stitches evenly = 54-58-62 stitches. Work until piece measures approx. 16-17-18 cm from cast-on edge - finish with a stripes in colour off white. Fasten off. Now work heel and foot as explained below. HEEL AND FOOT: Keep the first 13-14-15 stitches on needle for heel, slip the next 28-30-32 stitches on 1 thread (mid on top of foot) and keep the last 13-14-15 stitches on needle for heel = 26-28-30 heel stitches on needle. Work in stocking stitch back and forth over heel stitches with colour ocean view for 6-6-6½ cm. Insert 1 marker in the middle of last row - measure piece from this marker piece later. Work in HEEL DECREASE - read explanation above. After heel decrease work next round with colour ocean view as follows: Work in stocking stitch over the 16-16-18 heel stitches, pick up 16-16-17 stitches along side of heel, work in stocking stitch over the 28-30-32 stitches from thread on top of foot, and pick up 16-16-17 stitches along the other side of heel = 76-78-84 stitches. Work until mid under heel – round now begins here. Insert 1 marker on each side of the 28-30-32 stitches on top of foot. Work 1 round in stocking stitch with colour ocean view. Then work in the round in stocking stitch with stripes as before (begin with colour off white). AT THE SAME TIME decrease in each side as follows: Knit the last 2 stitches before first marker on top of foot together, and knit the first 2 stitches after last marker on top of foot twisted together. Decrease like this on every round 4 times in total and then on every other round 8-7-8 times in total = 52-56-60 stitches. Work until piece measures approx. 17-18-19 cm from marker on heel – measured under foot- finish with a stripe in colour off white. Switch to colour ocean view and work in stocking stitch until piece measures 18-19-20 cm from marker on heel – measured under foot. 4-5-6 cm remain until finished measurements, try the sock on for desired length before decreasing for toes as explained below. TOE: Insert 1 marker in each side of sock so that there are 26-28-30 stitches both on top of foot and under foot. Work in stocking stitch with colour ocean view. AT THE SAME TIME on first round decrease for toes on each side of both markers – read DECREASE TIP (= 4 stitches decreased). Decrease like this every other round 4-7-9 times in total, and then on every round 6-3-2 times in total = 12-16-16 stitches remain. On next round knit all stitches together 2 by 2 = 6-8-8 stitches remain. Cut the yarn and pull yarn through stitches, tighten together and fasten. The sock measures approx. 22-24-26 cm from marker on heel – measured under foot. Knit another sock the same way. |
