Has anyone tried this pattern with another yarn? I am thinking of knitting it with big merino, but I don't know if it will work with the knitting tension etc...

Hi Linde. Maybe you can try to make a sample and wash it and see how it reacts. Then you know for sure. Beste Linde. Je kan proberen om een proeflapje te breien en wassen, dan heb je een betrouwbare zekerheid van hoe het garen reageert.

The K 6 rows are only at the beg, you repeat *-* over the back piece.

I just began this pattern and I am trying to understand the short row shaping for the lower back. The instructions say: Shortened rows on back piece: First row = RS. K 6 rows on all sts, * K 25-28-29-31-33-35 sts, turn piece, tighten thread and K return row, K 12 rows on all sts *, repeat from *-*, i.e. 1 repeat = 14 rows at one side (at bottom) and 12 rows at the other side (at top). Now, once I have completed the second repeat, do I start over at the beginning by knitting the six rows?

Garter st, back and forth on needle: K all rows. Garter st, in the round: K 1 round, P 1 round. Shortened rows on back piece: First row = RS. Turns at front piece: To curve the front pieces work shortened rows with turns as follows: * Row 1/2: work 30-34-36-40-42-46 sts, turn piece, tighten thread and work return row. Row 3/4: work 28-32-34-38-40-44 sts, turn piece, tighten thread and work return row. Row 5/6: work 26-30-32-36-38-42 sts, turn piece, tighten thread and work return row. Row 7/8: work 24-28-30-34-36-40 sts, turn piece, tighten thread and work return row. Continue like this with 2 less sts before each turn until 2 sts remain, work these, turn and work return row. Work the last 2 rows in repeat as follows: work all 32-36-38-42-44-48 sts, turn piece and work return row *, repeat from *-*. ____________________________________________________________________ Back piece: Worked in 2 parts. Work the lower part from side to side, pick up sts and work the upper part from lower part towards the top. Both parts are worked back and forth on needles Lower part: Cast on 37-42-43-46-50-53 sts on needle size 5.5 mm with 2 threads Alpaca. Work garter st and shortened rows – see explanation above! Remember the knitting tension! When piece measures 40-45-50-55-60-65 cm along the bottom cast off loosely (piece measures approx 34-39-43-47-51-56 cm at the top). Upper part: Pick up 54-62-68-76-82-90 sts along the shorter side (= the top) on needle size 5.5 mm with 2 threads Alpaca. Work garter st back and forth on all sts, at the same time when piece measures 26-28-29-30-33-34 cm inc 1 st each side and repeat the inc on every 4-4-4-4-3-3 row another 4-4-5-5-6-6 times = 64-72-80-88-96-104 sts. When piece measures 33-36-37-39-42-43 cm cast off for armhole each side at the beg of every row: 3 sts 0-1-1-1-2-2 times, 2 sts 1-1-2-3-3-4 times and 1 st 1-1-2-3-3-4 times = 58-60-62-64-66-68 sts. When piece measures 50-54-56-59-63-65 cm cast off the middle 18-18-18-20-20-20 sts for neck and complete each shoulder separately. Dec 1 st on neckline on next row = 19-20-21-21-22-23 sts left on each shoulder. Cast off loosely when piece measures 52-56-58-61-65-67 cm. Left front piece: Worked back and forth on needle in garter st, i.e. K all rows. Cast on 32-36-38-42-44-48 sts on needle size 5.5 mm with 2 threads Alpaca. Work Turns (first row =WS) – see above. Repeat from *-* a total 4 times, round the curve piece now measures approx 43-48-51-56-59-64 cm. Now measure piece at side. Continue in garter st back and forth on all sts, at the same time when piece measures 26-28-29-30-33-34 cm inc 1 st at side and repeat the inc on every 4-4-4-4-3-3 row another 4-4-5-5-6-6 times = 37-41-44-48-51-55 sts. When piece measures 33-36-37-39-42-43 cm cast off for armhole at side as described for back piece = 34-35-35-36-36-37 sts. When piece measures 52-56-58-61-65-67 cm cast off the outermost 19-20-21-21-22-23 sts for shoulder from RS = 15-15-14-15-14-14 sts left for collar. Continue back and forth on collar sts as follows: * 2 rows garter st on all sts, 2 rows garter st on 7 sts towards mid front only *, repeat from *-* until collar measures approx 6.5-6.5-6.5-7-7-7 cm (on the shorter side) from shoulder. Cast off. Right front piece: Cast on like left front piece. Knit 1 row. Then work like left front piece (first row = WS). Additionally make 2 buttonholes, the first one after 20 rows in the 4th repeat with Turns, and the second one on the first row after the Turns have been completed. 1 buttonhole = cast off 3rd st from mid front and cast on 1 new st on return row. Sleeve Worked in the round on circular needle. Cast on 64-68-72-76-80-84 sts on circular needle size 5.5 mm with 2 threads Alpaca. Work 3 rounds garter st – see above! Continue in reverse stocking st – insert a Marking Thread (MT) at beg of round. When piece measures 6 cm dec 2 sts mid under arm (K tog the st before and the st after MT) and repeat the dec on every 7-7-7-6-6-6 cm another 4 times = 54-58-62-66-70-74 sts. When piece measures 38-37-36-34-33-32 cm (less for the larger sizes because of longer sleeve cap and wider shoulder) cast off 6 sts mid under arm and complete piece back and forth on needle. Cast off to shape the sleeve cap each side at the beg of every row: 2 sts 2 times, 1 st 1-2-3-5-6-7 times, then 2 sts each side until piece measures 44 cm, now cast off 3 sts each side 1 time and cast off remaining sts. Sleeve measures approx 45 cm. Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Sew side seams. Set in sleeves. Sew collar tog mid back and sew to neckline. Sew on buttons. |
