The pattern indicates to increase on each side of the marker by making a yarn over . Does this mean I will make one yarn over before the marker and another yarn over after? This means 2 yarn overs next to each other?

Hi Vicki, It seems there has been some sort of misunderstanding. In this pattern you increase like this - see INCREASE TIP: Increase 1 stitch on each side of the 15-17-21 thumb-stitches by making 1 yarn over, then working the 15-17-21 thumb-stitches in rib as before and making 1 yarn over. On the next round knit the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes, then work the new stitches into the rib (i.e., alternately knit then purl). The rib between the marker-threads is continued as before. Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- INCREASE TIP: Increase 1 stitch on each side of the 15-17-21 thumb-stitches by making 1 yarn over, then working the 15-17-21 thumb-stitches in rib as before and making 1 yarn over. On the next round knit the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes, then work the new stitches into the rib (i.e., alternately knit then purl). The rib between the marker-threads is continued as before. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- WRIST-WARMERS – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with double pointed needles, from the cuff upwards. WRIST-WARMER: Cast on 40-42-46 stitches with double pointed needles size 3 mm and DROPS Lima. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1) for 7-7-7 cm. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. On the next round, continue the rib as before, AT THE SAME TIME increase for the gusset on each side of the first 15-17-21 stitches on the round – insert 1 marker-thread on each side of these stitches (= thumb-stitches) and allow the threads to follow your work onwards - read INCREASE TIP in explanations above. Increase every 2nd round a total of 8-10-12 times = 56-62-70 stitches. Work until the piece measures 12-13-15 cm. Place the 15-17-21 thumb-stitches on a thread and cast on 1 new stitch behind the thumb-stitches = 42-46-50 stitches. Continue the rib as before until the piece measures 16-17-19 cm. Cast off a little loosely with rib. THUMB: Place the 15-17-21 thumb-stitches on double pointed needles size 3 mm and knit up 1 stitch in the cast-on stitch at the back of the thumb = 16-18-22 stitches. Continue the rib in the round until the thumb measures 1½ cm. Cast off a little loosely with rib. |
