I have seen your reply to Corinne regarding the decreases in the roof of your Merry Village houses….I still do not quite understand what you mean….I would greatly appreciate it if you could explain it to me in more detail…Ty

Dear Arlene, sure we can, but can you tell us more so that we can try to explain another way? Which part of the roof/decrease do you have worries with? How to decrease? Where to decrease? Thanks for your comprehension.

I am a little confused with the instructions for the roof on the houses. It’s asking to decrease every 2nd and 3 rd row alternatively. What does that mean? Is the first row stockinette and then the following 2 and 3 row decreases? What about the 4,5,6 rows? Sorry I’m a little confused. Thank you for your help Corrinne

Dear Corinne, decrease as follows: *1 round with decrease, 1 round without, 1 round with decreases, 2 rounds without* and repeat from *to* a total of 2 times (you have decreased a total of 4 times). Happy knitting!

Hi, Drops Design, thank you for your explanation about the gauge. I agree with you that 10x10 is correct, but it is not correct to write 10x10 CM, because 10x10 cm=100 cm, not 10 square cm (10 square cm=10 CMx10 CM). The way you put it is mathematically incorrect and you should not write it that way. It is not professional, educative and consistent (measurements in inches are written correct). It is a pitty you do not care about that while your patterns are otherwise meticulously written. A.

Bon tricot!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- INCREASE TIP: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is knitted twisted on the next round to avoid a hole. Then work the new stitches in stocking stitch. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). COLOURS: Each house is worked in 2 colours. We suggest 4 colour-combinations in DROPS Alpaca and 2 combinations in DROPS Lima. HOUSE-1: Bottom and roof worked with colour dark blush blush DROPS Alpaca. Walls worked with colour off white DROPS Alpaca. HOUSE-2: Bottom and roof worked with colour nougat DROPS Alpaca. Walls worked with colour off white DROPS Alpaca. HOUSE-3: Bottom and roof worked with colour dark green DROPS Alpaca. Walls worked with colour light nougat DROPS Alpaca. Walls worked with colour beige DROPS Lima. HOUSE-6: Bottom and roof worked with colour dark ivy DROPS Lima. Walls worked with colour beige DROPS Lima. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- HOUSE - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round, bottom up, first the bottom and walls, then the roof. The door and window are embroidered with flat stitch. The house is filled with wadding before the bottom is sewn together. A hanging-loop is worked to finish. HOUSE: Read COLOURS in explanations above. Cast on 34 stitches with needle size 3 mm and the bottom-colour. Knit 1 row from the wrong side. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. Change to the wall-colour. Divide the stitches between the double pointed needles and work stocking stitch in the round for 4 cm – measured from the ridge –increasing 4 stitches on the last round as follows: Read INCREASE TIP, knit 1, increase 1 stitch, knit 15, increase 1 stitch, knit 2, increase 1 stitch, knit 15, increase 1 stitch, knit 1 = 38 stitches. Change to roof-colour and knit 1 round (the yarn overs are knitted twisted to avoid holes). Purl 1 round and knit 2 rounds. Insert 1 marker in each side: 1 marker at the beginning of the round and 1 marker after 19 stitches (insert the markers between stitches). Continue stocking stitch in the round, decreasing as follows. Read DECREASE TIP and decrease 2 stitches on each side alternately every 2nd and 3rd round a total of 4 times = 22 stitches. Then decrease 2 stitches on each side every 2nd round 3 times = 10 stitches. Work the last round as follows: * Knit 1, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 2 together. Pass the slipped stitch over the knitted together stitches, knit 1 *, work from *-* one more time = 6 stitches. Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. DOOR AND WINDOW: Use colour dark grey DROPS Alpaca/black DROPS Lima. Embroider the door and window on one side of the house – see photo. The door covers 4 stitches in width and 8-10 rows in height, the window covers 4 stitches in width and 4 rows in height. ASSEMBLY: Fill the house with wadding and sew the bottom together, sewing 1 stitch in each stitch. LOOP: Cut 1 strand DROPS Alpaca/DROPS Lima of 15 cm, , thread it through 1 stitch at the top of the house, fold it double and tie a knot in the end. |
