Hi! I am trying to understand what means “On the last round purl all purl-2 together to purl-1= 60-72 stitches.” I did the ribbing for 4 cm as pattern says and would like to know if I need to fold it and purl 2 sides together? Could you please explain in more details how to proceed after rib? Thanks

Hi Dasha, You now change the ribbing from (knit 1, purl 2) to (knit 1, purl 1) on the last round. Do this by purling together each set of purl-2. After this round you change needles and then start on the English rib. Happy knitting!

Can this be knit in 1 strand of yarn? If so what size or recommended yarns?

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- ENGLISH RIB (in the round): ROUND 1: * Knit 1, make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise*, repeat from *-* to end of round. ROUND 2: * Make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, purl together the yarn over and slipped stitch *, repeat from *-* to end of round. ROUND 3: * Knit together the yarn over and slipped stitch, make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise *, repeat from *-* to end of round. Repeat rounds 2 and 3 onwards. INCREASE TIP: Increase 2 stitches in the knitted stitch and yarn over by working as follows: Knit together the stitch and yarn over but leave them on the left needle, make 1 yarn over, knit together the same stitch and yarn over 1 more time (= 2 increased stitches). Work the new stitches into the English rib but be aware that, on the first row after increasing, the increased stitch is knitted without a yarn over as its yarn over has not yet been made. Keep the marker in the first of these 3 stitches. KNITTING TIP (stitch count): All stitch counts given while working English rib are counted without their respective yarn overs. Stitches and yarn overs are counted as 1 stitch. DECREASE TIP: Work as far as the marker-stitch, slip the yarn over and knitted stitch as if to knit together, knit the next 2 stitches (including yarn over) together and pass the slipped yarn over and stitch over (2 stitches overs decreased). Decrease like this at each marker-stitch (12 stitches decreased on the round). ------------------------------------------------------ START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- NECK-WARMER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with circular needles, bottom up. NECK-WARMER: Cast on a little loosely 120 stitches with short circular needle size 4 mm, 1 strand DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk and 1 strand DROPS Alpaca (2 strands). Knit 1 round. Then work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 2) for 4 cm. On the last round purl all purl-2 together to purl-1 = 80 stitches. Change to circular needle size 5 mm. Work ENGLISH RIB – read description above. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Work until the piece measures 26 cm Change to circular needle size 4 mm. Work rib (knit 1, purl 2) for 4 cm, working the yarn overs as stitches (120 stitches). Cast off a little loosely, using a larger size needle. The neck-warmer measures approx. 30 cm from the cast-on edge. ------------------------------------------------------- BERET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with double pointed needles / circular needle, bottom up. BERET: Cast on 90-108 stitches with short circular needle size 3.5 mm, 1 strand DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk and 1 strand DROPS Alpaca (2 strands). Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 2) for 4 cm. On the last round purl all purl-2 together to purl-1= 60-72 stitches. Change to circular needle size 5 mm. Work ENGLISH RIB – read description above. When you have worked 4 rounds, insert 6 markers with 9-11 stitches between each one. All the markers are inserted into a knitted stitch. On the next round (a round where knitted stitches are knitted together with their yarn overs), increase 2 stitches in each marker-stitch - read INCREASE TIP. Increase like this every 6th round 2 more times = 96-108 stitches – read KNITTING TIP above. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Continue working until the piece measures 13-14 cm from the cast-on edge. Move all 6 markers 6 stitches to the left, inserting them into knitted stitches. On the next round decrease 2 stitches by each marker – read DECREASE TIP (12 stitches decreased). Decrease like this every 6th round 5-6 more times = 24-24 stitches. On the next round work rib (knit 1, purl 1), working the yarn overs together with their respective stitches. Work 2 rounds like this. Work all stitches together 2 and 2 = 12-12 stitches. Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. The beret measures approx. 23-24 cm. |
