Hi! I just finished this pattern in size L/XL and I love it! It has a very comfortable fit and can be worn with a more urban casual outfit if you just fold the elastic a little bit or look more classic if you fold it more. The elastic is not too tight and it covers my ears and the back of my neck perfectly for those windy days here in Sweden. It has definitely become my favorite hat pattern! I think it'd also be lovely in a multi-colored yarn!

Piece is knitted with fold in rib.

EXPLANATION FOR PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- DECREASE TIP-1 (evenly spaced): To calculate how to decrease evenly, use the total number of stitches on needle (e.g. 112 stitches) and divide stitches by number of decreases to be done (e.g. 8) = 14. In this example decrease by knitting every 13th and 14th stitch together. DECREASE TIP-2: Decrease 1 stitch before marker thread as follows: Begin 2 stitches before marker thread, knit 2 together (= 1 stitch decreased). ---------------------------------------------------------- BEGIN PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- HAT - SHORT SUMMARY OF PIECE: Worked in the round on a short circular needle, bottom up. Switch to double pointed needles when needed. HAT: Cast on 112-120 stitches on circular needle size 3 mm with Lima. Work rib in the round = knit 2/purl 2 for 12 cm. Knit 1 round while decreasing 8 stitches evenly in all sizes - READ DECREASE TIP-1 = 104-112 stitches. Switch to circular needle size 3.5 mm and work in stocking stitch in the round. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When piece measures 24-26 cm, insert 8 marker threads in piece as follows: Insert first marker at the beginning of round. Insert the 7 next marker threads 13-14 stitches apart. On next round decrease 1 stitch before each of the 8 marker threads – read DECREASE TIP-2 = 8 stitches decreased. Decrease like this on every other round 8 times in total and then on every round 3 times in total = 16-24 stitches. Knit 1 round where all stitches are knitted together 2 by 2 = 8-12 stitches remain. Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten together and fasten. Piece measures approx. 30-32 cm from top and down (including rib). Fold half the rib double towards the right side. |
