Bon tricot!

I have found the term '1 loose' in one of your patterns can you please tell me what that means
16.09.2014 - 01:50DROPS Design answered:
Dear Wendy, in this pattern you cast on / off sts loosely so that the edge will not be too tight. You are welcome to ask the question under the pattern where you found this to get further help. Happy knitting!

In the shawl pattern where it states add a stitch at the edge every 8th row (keep the no of sts even) the first statement says at the edge meaning 2 stitches increased the bracketed statement suggests 4 stitches increase. ?
31.08.2014 - 16:51DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Brown, you repeat row 2 (from WS) and row 3 (from RS) inc 4 sts on row 3, and every 8th row, you will inc 2 sts every 8th row from WS (= every other time you work row 2) until piece measures approx 36 cm over mid st, adjust so that you get an even number of sts each side of mid st. Happy knitting!

GARTER ST (back and forth on needle): K all rows. 1 ridge = 2 rows K. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1-A.3. The diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from RS. ---------------------------------------------------------- HAT: First work back and forth on circular needle over edge on hat, then work in the round on circular needle and change to double pointed needles when needed. Loosely cast on 100-110 sts on circular needle size 2.5 mm with 1 strand lavender and 1 strand pearl grey (= 2 strands). Work in GARTER ST back and forth – see explanation above – until piece measures 4 cm. Then work in the round as follows: ROUND 1: K all sts. ROUND 2: * K 2 tog, 1 YO *, repeat from *-*. ROUND 3: K all sts and YO. ROUND 4: P all sts. Switch to circular needle size 3 mm and work in stocking st. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When piece measures 16-17 cm, beg dec. ROUND 1: * K 8-9 sts, K the next 2 sts tog *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 90-100 sts (= 10 dec sts). ROUND 2 (and then on every even numbered round): K all sts. ROUND 3: * K 7-8 sts, K the next 2 sts tog *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 80-90 sts. ROUND 5: * K 6-7 sts, K the next 2 sts tog *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 70-80 sts. ROUND 7: * K 5-6 sts, K the next 2 sts tog *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 60-70 sts. ROUND 9: * K 4-5 sts, K the next 2 sts tog *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 50-60 sts. ROUND 11: * K 3-4 sts, K the next 2 sts tog *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 40-50 sts. ROUND 13: K all sts. ROUND 15: * K 2-3 sts, K the next 2 sts tog *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 30-40 sts. ROUND 17: * K 1-2 sts, K the next 2 sts tog *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 20-30 sts. ROUND 19: * K 0-1 st, K the next 2 sts tog *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 10-20 sts. SIZE L: ROUND 21: K all sts tog 2 by 2 = 10 sts. BOTH SIZES: = 10 sts remain. Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining sts, tighten tog and fasten. Sew edge in garter st mid back neatly tog st by st. The hat measures approx. 23-25 cm vertically. ---------------------------------------------------------- SHAWL: Worked back and forth on circular needle to make room for all the sts. K all sts and YOs, top down towards the tip. Cast on 9 sts on circular needle size 5 mm with 1 strand lavender and 1 strand pearl grey (= 2 strands). Work as follows: Row 1 (= RS): K 1, 1 YO, K 3, 1 YO, K 1 (= mid st) insert a marker in this st, 1 YO, K 3, 1 YO and K 1 = 13 sts. Row 2 (= WS): K all sts. Row 3: K 1, 1 YO, K until mid st, 1 YO, K 1 (= mid st), 1 YO, K until 1 st remains, 1 YO and K 1 = 4 sts inc. Repeat 2nd and 3rd row until piece measures approx. 36 cm over mid st, AT THE SAME TIME on every 8th row (i.e. every 4th row from WS), inc 1 st in each side of piece by making 1 YO inside 1 edge st in garter st. K YOs on next row. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Adjust so that no of sts on each side of mid st is an uneven number. Continue to work PATTERN from RS as follows: 2 sts in garter st, A.1, A.2 until 2 sts remain before mid st, work A.3, 1 st in garter st (= mid st), A.1, A.2 until 4 sts remain, work A.3 and 2 sts in garter st. Continue to work according to A.1/A.2/A.3 until diagrams have been worked 4 times in total vertically. Every time A.1/A.2/A.3 have been worked 1 time vertically there is room for one more diagram of A.2. Work 2 ridges over all sts (remember inc as before in each side and in the middle), LOOSELY cast off. |
