During the earflaps, when the pattern says “Repeat inc[dec] on every row starting from bottom edge,” does that mean every other row (every right side row)? Thank you!
02.01.2024 - 03:30DROPS Design answered:
Dear Captain Bumblebee, correct, the hat is worked starting from bottom of hat, so that you will increase at the beg of every row from RS for the earflap. Happy knitting!

Hello, I want to reproduce this hat for my son, however I don't have the FABER yarn, but a Merino Extra fine that says to use 3,5 needles. Do I need to change the number of stiches for this thinner yarn? How do I change the pattern to adapt it to this yarn. Thank you!
31.01.2022 - 14:35DROPS Design answered:
Dear Diana, this pattern can be worked either with a yarn group C or 2 strands of yarn type >a href="https://www.garnstudio.com/yarn-groups.php?cid=19#A">group A, hope it will help - you can search for any other pattern matching your tension/yarn, it might be much easier than recalculting the pattern to your own gauge/yarn. Happy knitting!

SHORT ROWS: More rows are worked over the bottom sts than the top sts. This is done as follows (1st row = RS): * Work until 1st marker, turn and work back, work until 2nd marker, turn and work back, work until 1st marker, turn and work back, work 2 rows over all sts *, repeat from *-*. I.e. 1 repetition = 8 rows (4 ridges) at the bottom and 2 rows (1 ridge) at the top. INCREASE TIP: Inc 1 st inside outermost st from bottom edge by making 1 YO, on next row K YO twisted (i.e. work in back loop of st instead of front) to avoid holes. -------------------------------------------------------- HAT: Worked sideways, back and forth on needle and sewn tog mid back when finished. Cast on 34-36-38 sts on needles size 5 mm with 1 thread Big Fabel or 2 threads Fabel. K 1 row from WS. Insert 2 markers in the piece as follows: 1st marker after 24-26-28 sts and 2nd marker after 30-32-34 sts in total, 4 sts remain after last marker (these 4 sts are at top of tip on the hat). K back and forth (= garter st) while at the same time working SHORT ROWS – see explanation above! At the same time when piece measures 4-5-6 cm in the longer side (= bottom edge of hat), inc 1 st for ear flap on next row from bottom edge – SEE INCREASE TIP! Repeat inc on every row starting from bottom edge a total of 5-6-7 times = 39-42-45 sts. When 6 rows have been worked (= 3 ridges) in bottom edge after last inc, start dec. Dec by K tog 2nd and 3rd st from bottom edge. Repeat dec on every row from bottom edge a total of 7-8-9 times = 32-34-36 sts. Continue in garter st and with short rows until piece measures 24-27-30 cm in total in bottom edge. Now inc 1 st on next row from bottom edge, for the other ear flap – SEE INCREASE TIP. Repeat inc on every row starting from bottom edge a total of 7-8-9 times = 39-42-45 sts. When 6 rows have been worked (= 3 ridges) in bottom edge after last inc, start dec. Dec by K tog 2nd and 3rd st from bottom edge. Repeat dec on every row from bottom edge a total of 5-6-7 times = 34-36-38 sts. Continue in garter st and with short rows as before for 4-5-6 cm after last dec. Piece measures approx. 38-43-48 cm at bottom edge. Cast off all sts. ASSEMBLY: Sew a thread through all sts at the top of tip on hat and tighten tog. Then sew the hat tog mid back. Sew edge to edge, cast off edge against cast on edge to avoid a chunky seam. |
