Using this chart back and forth is fine. empty box = K on RS and P on WS. X = P on RS, K on WS. 0 = same thing both sides. /\ = RS: slip 1 st as if to K, K2 tog, psso, WS: slip 1 st as if to P, P2 tog, psso.

Pattern: See diagram M.1. The diagram shows the pattern from the RS. Heel decreases: P 1 row from WS on all heel sts, at the same time dec 7-5-3 sts evenly = 32-34-36 sts. Continue in stocking st, at the same time slip 1 st on a thread at the end of every row until there are 9-10-11 sts on thread each side = 14 sts left on needle. Insert a Marking Thread (MT) in piece. Now continue in stocking st, at the same time work 1 st from thread back on needle at the end of every row. NB! To avoid a hole in transition, pick up 1 new st between needle and thread. On next row K tog the 2 new sts. Continue until there are 32-34-36 sts on needle. Work 1 row stocking st on all sts, at the same time dec 2-4-6 sts evenly = 30-30-30 sts on needle. Decreasing tip (applies to toe): Dec as follows before marking thread: K2 tog Dec as follows after marking thread: slip 1 st as if to K, K1, psso. Sock: Knitted in the round on double pointed needles. Cast on 61-61-71 sts on needle size 2.5 mm. Insert a Marking Thread (MT) at the beg of round (= mid back). Continue as follows: P1, K2, P2, M.1 on the next 50-50-60 sts, K1, P2, K2, P1. Remember the knitting tension! When piece measures approx 20-22-24 cm – adjust to after the first 5 rounds in M.1 – work next round as follows: P1, K2, P2 tog, K the next 51-51-61 sts, P2 tog, K2, P1 = 59-59-69 sts. Keep the first 19 sts on needle, slip the next 20-20-30 sts on a thread (= mid upper foot) and keep the last 20 sts on needle = 39 sts for heel. Continue on heel sts in stocking st and dec for heel – see Heel decreases above. Now slip sts from thread back on needle = 50-50-60 sts. Continue in M.1 on all sts – make sure that pattern continues from before on mid upper foot. When piece measures 18-20-22 cm (= 4-4-5 cm left) from marking thread on heel insert 1 new MT each side with 25-25-30 sts on upper foot and 25-25-30 sts under foot. Continue in stocking st on all sts, at the same time dec 1 st on each side of both MT – see Decreasing tip: on every other round a total of 5-5-6 times and on every round 4-4-5 times = 14-14-16 sts left. On next round K tog all sts 2 by 2. Cut the thread, pull through remaining sts and fasten. |
