What exactly is meant by „halbpatent“? The directions are a little confusing and when trying to look it up on YouTube, the videos seem to show a different technique. In the videos section, there’s only one for „vollpatent“. Thank you in advance.

Dear Veronika, there are several options to knit a Halbpatent (False English Rib). You can find videos under Tips & Help => Knitting Videos => Textures => English rib. The one shown in the pattern for the headscarf is the "Shaker Rib" (Halbpatent mit tiefergestochenen Maschen). Happy knitting!

Bon tricot!

After the increases my piece measures 24 cm without the ties. The pattern calls for 12-14-16 cm. I feel like 22-24-26 might be correct. Also because you approx. have to add 12-14-16 cm to get to a total length of 36 cm. That doesn't add up

Dear Elisa, the increase part (after I-cord tie) should be approximately 12-14-16 cm as you will have to increase 7-8-9 times every 8th row = 49-57-65 rows and with a tension of 40 rows for 10 cm = approx. 14-14-16 cm from the first row with increase - then work until piece measures 36 cm from beg (without ties) and start decreasing = 36 rows = approx. 12-14-16 cm. Piece is now 36+12-14-16=48-50-52 cm. Can this help? Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- 2 EDGE STITCHES I-CORD (on each side of the piece): BEGINNING OF ROW: Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1. END OF ROW: Work until there are 2 stitches left on the row, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1. Work in the same way from both the right and wrong side. FISHERMAN’S RIB (back and forth): ROW 1 (wrong side): Knit. ROW 2 (right side): * Purl 1, knit 1 in stitch below the next stitch *, work from *-* until there is 1 stitch left, purl 1. Repeat rows 1 and 2 onwards. INCREASE TIP: All increases are worked from the right side. Increase in the mid-stitch as follows: Knit 1 in stitch below the mid-stitch, make 1 yarn over, knit 1 in same stitch, make 1 yarn over, knit 1 in same stitch (4 increased stitches). Knit all stitches on the next row. Then work the stitches into the Fisherman’s rib as follows: Knit 1 in stitch below, purl 1, knit 1 in stitch below, purl 1, knit 1 in stitch below. Insert 1 marker in the mid-stitch and allow it to follow your work onwards. DECREASE TIP: All decreases are worked from the right side. Decrease 5 stitches to 1 stitch as follows: Work to 2 stitches before the mid-stitch. Slip the first 2 stitches from the left needle onto the right needle, place the mid-stitch on an extra needle in front of the piece – important! the mid-stitch is lifted off in the stitch below (mid-stitch = 1 stitch + 1 loop). Slip the 2 outermost stitches on the right needle back onto the left needle, knit 4 twisted together (the mid-stitch on the extra needle remains there). Place the mid-stitch back on the left needle, place the outermost stitch on the right needle onto the left needle, knit 2 together: mid-stitch lies on top in a straight line = 4 decreased stitches. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- HEADSCARF – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth. One tie is worked first, then stitches are increased until the width of the headscarf is achieved, then the middle section is worked before decreasing on the other side of the piece. The second tie is worked to finish. TIE-1: Cast on 7 stitches with circular needle size 4.5 mm, 1 strand DROPS Daisy and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (2 strands). Work the first row from the wrong side as follows: 2 EDGE-STITCHES I-CORD – read explanation above, work FISHERMAN’S RIB then 2 edge-stitches I-cord. Work back and forth like this for 38-40-42 cm, finishing after a row from the wrong side. INCREASE: The piece is now measured from here. From the right side: Continue the edge-stitches and Fisherman’s rib but increase 4 stitches in the mid-stitch – read INCREASE TIP in explanations above. Repeat the increase every 8th row (i.e., every 4th row from the right side) a total of 7-8-9 times = 35-39-43 stitches. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. The piece measures approx. 12-14-16 cm (without the tie). MIDDLE SECTION: Continue as before without further increases until the piece measures 36-36-36 cm; there is approx. 12-14-16 cm left to finished length (without the ties). Finish after a row from the wrong side. DECREASE: Continue the edge-stitches and Fisherman’s rib but decrease 4 stitches over the 5 middle stitches – read DECREASE TIP in explanations above. Repeat the decrease every 8th row (i.e., every 4th row from the right side) a total of 8 times = 7 stitches. The piece measures approx. 48-50-52 cm (without the ties). Finish after a row from the right side. TIE-2: = 7 stitches. From the wrong side: Work 2 edge-stitches I-cord, Fisherman’s rib and 2 edge-stitches I-cord. Work back and forth like this for 38-40-42 cm. Cast off with knit above knit and purl above purl. |
