Hei.

Urban Autumn Scarf I would like to size this up to knit as a blanket. Do you think this would work and Drops Air is usually knitted with 5mm needles - this pattern says 8mm. Does that give a looser fabric or is it because of doing Brioche stitch.
15.05.2022 - 17:22DROPS Design answered:
Dear Patricia, regarding your first question, yes, you could size it up to knit a blanket, by increasing the number the stitches. Secondly, yes, it's worked with 8mm needles so that it's looser or it has more volume. Happy knitting!

Takk! Veldig fint sjal!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge in height = Knit 2 rows. STRIPES: H = main colour. B = background colour. 22 cm with wheat (H) and blue (B) 3 cm with wheat (H) 22 cm with navy blue (H) and wheat (B) 5 cm with sea green (H) 22 cm with sea green (H) and black (B) 3 cm with wheat (H) 22 cm with wheat (H) and sea green (B) 3 cm with wheat (H) 22 cm with brown (H) and wheat (B) 5 cm with wheat (H) Work 22 cm with wheat (H) and blue (B) – finish after row 4 in the English rib pattern. KNITTING TIP-1: The number of stitches should be divisible by 2 + 1. To get the 2-coloured English rib, work back and forth with circular needle as follows: Work row 1 in (H) as described below, then push all the stitches back to the first end of the circular needle so the next row is worked from the same side with colour (B) – then turn the piece and work the next 2 rows in the same way – i.e. 1 row with each colour, 2 rows, worked from the same side of the piece before turning and working back. KNITTING TIP-2: If you are in doubt about which colour the previous row was worked in, you can look at the colour of the edge stitch on that row. 2-COLOURED ENGLISH RIB WITH YARN OVERS: ROW 1 (= right side), worked with main colour (H): 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, * knit together the yarn over and slipped stitch, 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to purl *, work from *-* until there are 2 stitches left, knit together the yarn over and slipped stitch, 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. ROW 2 (= right side), worked with background colour (B): 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, * 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, purl together the yarn over and slipped stitch *, work from *-* until there are 2 stitches left, 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Turn the piece and change colour. ROW 3 (= wrong side), worked with main colour (H): 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, * purl together the yarn over and slipped stitch, 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to purl *, work from *-* until there are 2 stitches left, purl together the yarn over and slipped stitch, 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Push the stitches back to the other end of the circular needle (without turning the piece), so you work from the same side as the previous row. Change colour. ROW 4 (= wrong side), worked with background colour (B): 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, * 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, knit together the yarn over and slipped stitch *, work from *-* until there are 2 stitches left, 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to purl and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Turn the piece and change colour. Repeat rows 1-4 onwards. 1-COLOURED ENGLISH RIB WITH YARN OVERS, worked with main colour (= H): 2 rows of English rib show 1 visible knitted stitch. ROW 1 (= right side): 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, * knit 1, 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to purl *, work from *-* until there are 2 stitches left, knit 1 and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. ROW 2 (= wrong side): 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, * 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, knit together the yarn over and slipped stitch *, work from *-* until there are 2 stitches left, 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to purl and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. ROW 3 (= right side): 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, * knit together the yarn over and slipped stitch, 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to purl *, work from *-* until there are 2 stitches left, knit together the yarn over and slipped stitch and finish with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Repeat rows 2 and 3 onwards. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SCARF – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth with stripes in 2-coloured English rib and 1-coloured English rib. SCARF: Cast on 35 stitches with circular needle size 8 mm and 2 strands wheat (2 strands make the cast-on edge elastic). Continue with just 1 strand. Purl 1 row (= wrong side). The next row is worked as follows from the right side: 1 edge stitch in GARTER STITCH – read description above, * knit 1, purl 1 *, work from *-* until there are 2 stitches left on row, knit 1 and finish with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. The next row is worked as follows (= wrong side): 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, * 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, purl 1 *, work from *-* until there are 2 stitches left on the row, 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Then work English rib in STRIPES – read description above; i.e. when working a stripe with 2 colours, work 2-COLOURED ENGLISH RIB WITH YAN OVERS and when working a stripe with just 1 colour, work 1-COLOURED ENGLISH RIB WITH YARN OVERS – read descriptions above. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When the last stripe is finished the piece measures approx. 152 cm. The next row is worked with wheat from the right side: 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, * knit the yarn over and slipped stitch together, purl 1 *, work from *-* until there are 2 stitches left before the edge stitch, knit the yarn over and slipped stitch together and finish with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. On the next row, loosely cast off with 2 strands wheat; cast off with garter stitch over garter stitch, knit over knit and purl over purl. The scarf measures approx.153 cm. |
