Hello! Can you please explain what this sentence means? " Work in stocking stitch with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch in each side for 2 cm from stitches cast off mid front." I'd be super grateful if you could break it down step by step. Also, do I have to start the i-cord cast off from the wrong side? So, say my 'vent' cast-offs left me on the right side, do I have to knit an extra row in stocking before starting the i-cord cast off? Thanks in advance!

Dear Niharika, the sentence means, thatyou have to knit with stocking stitch, at the same time, do 1 edge stitch on both side with garter stitch (knit stitch in each row). Knit like that for two centimeters, measured from thr point where you cast off the two stitches in the midfront. I hope this helps. Happy Knitting!

Winter mystique doesn't seem the right fit for its name .. winter is rather hostile and extremely cold t. this hat looks more for autumn as its very thin and almost see through. maybe something like autumn trod or forest trod. the piece however is so cute ... love it! credit to the creator of this pattern ... wonderfully and tasteful done !

---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge vertically = knit 2 rows. ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- BALAKLAVA – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Work piece back and forth, from mid back, sideway to mid front. Work a vent in each side. Work an i-cord edge around the opening for face. Then sew piece together mid back and mid front. BALACLAVA: Cast on 190-196 stitches on circular needle size 5 mm with DROPS Air. Purl 1 row from wrong side. Work as follows from right side: Work 34 stitches in GARTER STITCH – read explanation above, work in stocking stitch until 34 stitches remain, work 34 stitches in garter stitch. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When piece measures 14-15 cm, work a vent as follows: ROW 1: Cast off the first 30 stitches, work 4 stitches in garter stitch, stocking stitch until 34 stitches remain, work 34 stitches in garter stitch = 160-166 stitches. ROW 2: Cast off the first 30 stitches, work 4 stitches in garter stitch, work in stocking stitch until 4 stitches remain, work 4 stitches in garter stitch and cast on 30 stitches at the end of row = 160-166 stitches. ROW 3: Work 34 stitches in garter stitch, work in stocking stitch until 4 stitches remain, work 4 stitches in garter stitch and cast on 30 stitches at the end of row = 190-196 stitches. Continue back and forth in stocking stitch with 34 stitches in garter stitch in each side of piece. When piece measures 14-15 cm from vent, cast off stitches at beginning of the next 2 rows as follows: ROW 1: Cast off 34 stitches, work stocking stitch until 34 stitches remain, 34 stitches in garter stitch = 156-162 stitches. ROW 2: Cast off 34 stitches, work in stocking stitch the rest of row = 122-128 stitches. Work in stocking stitch with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch in each side for 2 cm from stitches cast off mid front. CAST-OFF: Now cast off with an i-cord cast-off as follows: On next row from wrong side, cast on 3 new stitches at the end of row = 125-131 stitches. Work and decrease, beginning from right side, as follows: * Knit 2, knit the next 2 stitches twisted together. Lift stitches worked back on left needle *, work from *-* until all stitches on left needle have been cast off and 3 stitches remain on right needle. Move the 3 stitches on to left needle and cast off the stitches by knitting. Cut and fasten the yarn. ASSEMBLY: Sew in outer loops of edge stitch mid back. Sew in outer loops of edge stitch mid front up to and with i-cord edge. |
