Hi. I'm currently looking for just one set of drops 3mm dpns in 40cm length but you seem to only have that size in sets. I have a lovely drops set but somehow, the 3mm set is gone! Help!!! Thanks

Hei.

I don't understand how the marker thread works or what it does in this particular pattern. Knit 1, put marker thread, then knit the rest together - this does not make the right number of stitches. 56 - 58 -1 = 55 - 57. Divided by two this does not give 28 - 29. What should the marker thread even do here? Thank you so much!

Dear Ellie, you just have to move the marker after the first stitch of the round (which is a knitted stitch), so that next round will start with P1, on this round you will work K2 together all the round, so that you will knit the 2nd stitch on left needle (= K1) together with the 1st stitch on needle (= P1) to make the decreases nicer - at the end of the round, you will work the last P stitch together with the K stitch (= the previous first stitch of the rounds). There were 56-58 sts, working K2 tog all the round will divide the number by 2 =26-29 sts remain. Happy knitting!

DROPS 204-36 |

---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge vertically = knit 2 rows. INCREASE TIP (applies to mittens): Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over. On next round knit yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. Then work the new stitches in stocking stitch. ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- HAT - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Worked in the round on circular needle, switch to double pointed needles when needed. HAT: Cast on 160-168 stitches on circular needle size 3 mm. Then work in the round as follows: Purl 1 round, then work rib = knit 1/purl 1. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When piece measures 25-27 cm, begin decrease. Add a marker thread in the first stitch on round = 1 knit stitch. DECREASE 1: * Knit 1, knit the next 2 stitches together (= 1 purl stitch and 1 knit stitch together), purl 1 *, work from *-* 40 times in total on round (= 40-42 stitches decreased) = 120-126 stitches. Then work knit over knit and purl over purl for 3 cm. DECREASE 2: Knit 1, move marker thread here (i.e. move marker thread 1 stitch towards the left and this is now beginning of round). * Knit 1, knit the next 2 stitches together (= 1 purl stitch and 1 knit stitch together) *, work from *-* 40-42 times in total on round (= 40-42 stitches decreased) = 80-84 stitches. All purl stitch have been decreased. Work in stocking stitch for 2 cm. DECREASE 3: Knit stitches together 2 by 2 = (40-42 stitches decreased) = 40-42 stitches. Work in stocking stitch for 2 cm. DECREASE 4: Knit stitches together 2 by 2 = (20-21 stitches decreased) = 20-21 stitches. Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten together and fasten - Hat measures approx. 33-35 cm (approx. 25-27 cm with 8 cm folding edge). ---------------------------------------------------------- NECK WARMER - SHORT SUMMARY OF PIECE: Work first back and forth on circular needle in 2 parts, then put the 2 parts together and work in the round on circular needle. NECK WARMER: Cast on 85-93 stitches on circular needle size 3 mm with Alpaca. Purl 1 row from wrong side. Then work rib as follows: 1 edge stitch in GARTER STITCH - read explanation above, (knit 1/purl 1) until 2 stitches remain on needle, knit 1, 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Continue back and forth like this. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When piece measures 7-8 cm - adjust so that next row is from right side, put stitches on a stitch holder. Put piece aside and work another part the same way but keep the stitches on the needle. Now work the 2 parts together as follows: Work as before over stitches on needle, cast on 3 new stitches, work from right side and as before over stitch on first part worked, cast on 3 stitches = 176-192 stitches. Continue with rib in the round = knit 1/purl 1. When piece measures 9-10 cm from where the 2 parts were put together (= 16-18 cm in total), cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl. Cut and fasten the yarn. ---------------------------------------------------------- MITTENS - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Worked in the round on double pointed needles. LEFT MITTEN: Cast on 56-58 stitches on double pointed needles size 3 mm with Alpaca. Knit 1 round. Then work rib = knit 1/purl 1 until piece measures 8 cm. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Now continue in the round with rib and increase 1 stitch on each side of the first stitch on round (= 1 knit stitch) for thumb gusset - read INCREASE TIP. Increase like this every 4th round 7-8 times in total (work the new stitches in stocking stitch) = 15-17 stitches for thumb gusset. Slip the 15-17 thumb gusset on a stitch holder, cast on 1 new stitch behind the stitches on stitch holder = 56-58 stitches. Continue rib as before. When piece measures 26-27 cm, decrease as follows: Knit 1, mover marker thread here. Marker thread is now before 1 purl stitch. Knit stitches together 2 by 2 = 28-29 stitches. All purl stitch have been decreased. Knit 2 rounds. Then knit all stitches together 2 by 2 until 14 stitches remain in both sizes. Knit 1 round and knit all knit and stitches together 2 by 2 = 7 stitches in both sizes. Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten tog and fasten. THUMB: Slip the 15-17 thumb stiches back on double pointed needles size 3 mm. Pick up 3 stitches in the edge behind the thumb = 18-20 stitches. Continue in the round in stocking stitch. When thumb measures 5½-6 cm, decrease as follows: Knit stitches together 2 by 2 until 5 stitches remains. Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten together and fasten. RIGHT MITTEN: Cast on and work the same way as left mitten. |
