I love this but hate sewing pieces together. Could I use provisional cast-on?

Dear Mrs Brown, yes you can start with a provisional cast-on. Happy knitting!

I experimented with the wavy edge after reading some comments here. The edge works as written. However the video, tho helpful, shows a worsted weight yarn with a much more dramatic wave than you will get using the kid-silk. If you look carefully at the photo of the shawl you will see a subtle wave, and the YO rows make a larger than normal stitch hole. Make sure you cast off loosely to maintain relaxed tension from the last two rows.

Is there a particular way to bind off in order to achieve the wavy edge? I did the k1, yo for two rows, but when I bind off I just get a linear edge. I have torn out my stitches 4 times now and redone it, but still do not get the wavy edge. Help please!

Dear Jessica, you'll find below a video showing you how to work the wavy edge and how to cast on then. Happy knitting!

Was muss ich beim Anschlag ändern?? Danke im Voraus für Ihren Rat und viele Grüße Ursula
17.03.2014 - 15:55DROPS Design answered:

Knitted DROPS shawl in garter st in "Kid-Silk".

|
GARTER ST (back and forth on needle): K all rows. WAVE EDGE * K 1, 1 YO *, repeat from *-* and finish with K 1. Repeat this row one more time. ---------------------------------------------------------- SHAWL: Worked in 2 parts that are sewn tog mid back when finished. Cast on 48 sts on needle size 8 mm with Kid-Silk. Work in GARTER ST - see explanation above. When piece measures approx. 85 cm, work WAVE EDGE - see explanation above, cast off. Knit another part the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew cast-on edges on the 2 parts tog st by st with stitches. SHAPING: Place the piece in lukewarm water until it is soaking wet. Carefully squeeze out the water - do not twist. Then roll the piece in a towel and squeeze to remove more water - the piece will now only be moist. Grab hold of the middle of shawl and shake it. Place the piece on a carpet or mattress - carefully stretch it out to measurements found at the top of pattern. Leave to dry. Repeat the process when the shawl has been washed. |
