Can I knit this pattern in double knit wool?
06.04.2022 - 17:28DROPS Design answered:
Dear Julie, this is worked with a group A yarn. DK or group B yarns are thicker. You would need to work a smaller size (for example, you work according to S for an M size result, if the gauge allows it). Otherwise, you would need to recalculate the stitches in the pattern according to your new gauge with the DK yarn. Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- CASTING-OFF TIP: To avoid the cast-off edge being tight you can cast off with a larger size needle. If the edge is still tight, make 1 yarn over after approx. each 4th stitch at the same time as casting off; the yarn overs are cast off as normal stitches. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- WRIST-WARMERS – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with double pointed needles. Stitches are increased for the thumb-gusset and then placed on a thread. Stiches are cast on behind the gusset and the piece is continued in the round. The top of the thumb is worked to finish. WRIST-WARMER: Cast on 56-60-64 stitches with double pointed needles size 2.5 mm and DROPS Baby Merino. Work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2). REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When the piece measures 11-13-15 cm increase 1 stitch (by making 1 yarn over) on each side of the first 2 knitted stitches (= 2 stitches increased for the thumb gusset). On the next round knit the yarn overs twisted. Continue to increase on the outside of the increased stitches every 3rd round a total of 5-6-6 times; 12-14-14 stocking stitches for the thumb = 66-72-76 stitches. Continue with rib and the thumb-stitches in stocking stitch until the piece measures 17-19-21 cm. Work the 12-14-14 thumb-stitches and place them on a thread. Finish the round with rib as before. Cast on 2 new stitches at the beginning of the round (= behind the stitches on the thread) = 56-60-64 stitches and continue with rib as before in the round until the piece measures 24-26-28 cm from the cast-on edge – or to desired length. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl – read CASTING-OFF TIP. THUMB: Place the 12-14-14 stitches from the thread back on double pointed needles size 2.5 mm and knit up 3 stitches in the 2 new stitches cast on behind the thumb = 15-17-17 stitches. Work stocking stitch in the round for 1 cm – you can try the wrist-warmer on and work to desired length. Cast off with knit - remember CASTING-OFF TIP! Work 1 more wrist-warmer in the same way. |
