Hi, I am considering knitting this cardigan with Drops Alpaca and note that the pattern states using "2 threads" of yarn. Does this mean that I have to use double the amount of yarn to make up DK thickness? Thank you Anne
30.12.2017 - 18:35DROPS Design answered:
Dear Anne, you will use from 500-800 g (according to your size). You will be working with 2 threads at the same time in order to obtain the thickness C (A+A=C). Happy knitting!

Thank you for your time. I have knitted the back up to the neck, I'm struggling a little, I hope to figure it out on my own, but will ask for more help if need be. Still knitting :) The design is beautiful, I hope I can finish without to much trouble.

Sorry to bother you. I'm having difficulty in understanding this part of the pattern *P2,K2 sts in each of the 2 next sts (=K4) does this mean P2,K2 in one stitch then P2,K2 in the next stitch? and what does (=K4) mean. Thanks
08.03.2015 - 02:28DROPS Design answered:
Dear Lucy, when it says K2 sts in ach of the next 2 sts, you will work each of the next 2 sts into front and back loop (= you knit the both K2 sts 2 times to inc 2 sts = you have now K4 above K2). Happy knitting!

Can I knit this pattern in any double knitting wool? I cannot get the wools mentioned locally? Also what is meant by "two threads' Thanks in advance. Eilish
11.11.2013 - 19:55DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Quigley, the jacket is worked with 2 strands held together (double strands), on the basis of a tension of 17 sts x 22 rows = 10 x 10 cm. You can check our yarn categories with alternatives (2 threads yarn group A = 1 thread group C). Happy knitting!

I want to ask about the pattren, is the back row is like the diagram or the same as the ws? what i am doing on the 2th rows? or 4th row?
02.11.2013 - 11:50DROPS Design answered:
Dear Haya, 1 square in diagram = 1 st x 1 row. Read diagram starting from RS at the bottom corner right towards the left, and from WS, from the left towards the right, ie on 2nd row M.1: P10,K2,P4,K1,P4,K2,P10. Happy knitting!

GARTER ST (back and forth on needle): K all rows. PATTERN: See diagrams M.1, M.2 and M.3 – diagrams show pattern from RS. INCREASE TIP (applies to collar): Inc inside outermost band st by making 1 YO, on next row K YO twisted (i.e. work in back loop of st instead of front) to avoid holes. DECREASE TIP (applies to neck): Dec from RS inside the 5 band sts + the new sts inc for collar. Dec as follows AFTER all sts in garter st: Slip 1 st as if to K, K 1, psso. Dec as follows 2 sts BEFORE all sts in garter st: K 2 tog. BUTTON HOLES: Cast off for button holes on right front band from RS. 1 button hole = K tog third and fourth st from mid front and make 1 YO. Cast off for button holes when piece measures: SIZE S: 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 cm SIZE M: 3, 11, 18, 25 and 32 cm SIZE L: 3, 11, 18, 26 and 33 cm SIZE XL: 3, 11, 19, 27 and 34 cm SIZE XXL: 3, 11, 19, 27 and 35 cm SIZE XXXL: 4, 12, 20, 28 and 36 cm -------------------------------------------------------- BACK PIECE: Worked back and forth on needle. Cast on 76-84-92-100-108-116 sts (incl 1 edge st each side) on needle size 4 mm with 2 threads Alpaca. K 5 rows. Switch to needle size 5 mm. Work next row as follows (from RS): 1 edge st in GARTER ST – see explanation above, K 13-16-19-22-25-28, * P 2, K 2 sts in each of the 2 next sts (= K 4), K 1, K 2 sts in each of the next 2 sts (= K 4), P 2 *, K 30-32-34-36-38-40, repeat from *-*, K 13-16-19-22-25-28 and 1 edge st in garter st = 84-92-100-108-116-124 sts. Work next row from WS as follows: 1 edge st in garter st, P 13-16-19-22-25-28, K 2, P 4, K 1, P 4, K 2, P 30-32-34-36-38-40, K 2, P 4, K 1, P 4, K 2, P 13-16-19-22-25-28 and 1 edge st in garter st. Work next row from RS as follows: 1 edge st in garter st, K 3-6-9-12-15-18, diagram M.1 (= 33 sts), K 10-12-14-16-18-20, diagram M.1, K 3-6-9-12-15-18 and 1 edge st in garter st. Continue until diagram M.1 has been worked 2 times vertically. Then work diagram M.2 over diagram M.1 (work remaining sts as before). The fewest no of sts on needle while working the narrow part of M.2 is 68-76-84-92-100-108 sts. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When diagram M.2 has been worked, 84-92-100-108-116-124 sts remain on needle. Continue with diagram M.3 over diagram M.2 until finished measurements (work remaining sts as before). When piece measures 41-42-43-44-45-46 cm, cast off for armholes at beg of every row in each side as follows: 4-5-6-7-8-9 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1-2-2-3-3-4 times and 1 st 2-2-4-4-6-6 times = 68-70-72-74-76-78 sts on needle. Continue with pattern as before (without lace pattern in each side which has been cast off), with 1 edge st in garter st in each side towards armhole. When piece measures 57-59-61-63-65-67 cm, work 4 rows in garter st over the middle 24-26-28-30-32-34 sts, then cast off the middle 14-16-18-20-22-24 sts for neck. Finish each part (= 27 sts) separately. Continue with 5 sts in garter st towards the neck. When piece measures approx. 60-62-64-66-68-70 cm, work sts over cables tog 2 by 2 (i.e. dec 4 sts) = 23 sts remain on needle. On next row cast off all remaining sts K over K and P over P. LEFT FRONT PIECE: Worked back and forth on needle. Cast on 43-47-51-55-59-63 sts (incl 1 edge st in the side and 5 band sts towards mid front) on needle size 4 mm with 2 threads Alpaca. K 5 rows. Switch to needle size 5 mm. Work next row as follows (from RS, beg in the side): 1 edge st in garter st, K 13-16-19-22-25-28, * P 2, K 2 sts in each of the next 2 sts (= 4 sts), K 1, K 2 sts in each of the next 2 sts (= K 4), P 2 *, K 15-16-17-18-19-20 and 5 band sts in garter st = 47-51-55-59-63-67 sts. Work next row from WS as follows: 5 band sts in garter st, P 15-16-17-18-19-20, K 2, P 4, K 1, P 4, K 2, P 13-16-19-22-25-28 and 1 edge st in garter st. Work next row from RS as follows: 1 edge st in garter st, K 3-6-9-12-15-18, diagram M.1 (= 33 sts), K 5-6-7-8-9-10 and 5 band sts in garter st. Continue until diagram M.1 has been worked 2 times vertically. Then work diagram M.2 over diagram M.1 (work remaining sts as before). The fewest no of sts on needle while working the narrow part of M.2 is 39-43-47-51-55-59 sts. When diagram M.2 has been worked, 47-51-55-59-63-67 sts remain on needle. Continue with diagram M.3 over diagram M.2 until finished measurements (work remaining sts as before). AT THE SAME TIME when piece measures 33-34-35-36-37-38 cm, work 2 rows back and forth only over the 5 band sts in garter st, 1st row = WS (this is done to make the neckline fold nicely). READ ALL OF THE FOLLOWING SECTION BEFORE CONTINUING! Then continue over all sts as before. COLLAR: At the same time (right after having worked the 2 rows only over band) inc 1 st for collar – SEE INCREASE TIP! Repeat inc on every other row a total of 8 times and then on every 4th row a total of 6 times = 14 new collar sts (19 sts in total). NECKLINE: At the same time, 2 cm after beg inc for collar, dec 1 st towards neck - SEE DECREASE TIP. Repeat dec on every other row another 6-7-8-9-10-11 times and then on every 4th row 5 times in all sizes - NOTE: Make sure to dec lace pattern gradually, do not work 2 sts tog if there is not any room for YO. ARMHOLE: At the same time when piece measures 41-42-43-44-45-46 cm, cast off for armhole in the side as on back piece. When all cast offs and dec for armhole and neck are done, 41 sts remain on needle. Continue pattern. When piece measures approx. 60-62-64-66-68-70 cm, work sts over cables tog 2 by 2 (i.e. dec 4 sts) = 37 sts remain on needle. On next row from RS, cast off the first 23 sts for shoulder, K the remaining 14 collar sts. Then continue over the 14 collar sts as follows (1st row = WS): * K 2 rows over all sts, K 2 rows over the first 10 sts *, repeat from *-* until collar measures approx. 5-5-6-6-7-7 cm at the inside and double at the outer side, cast off. RIGHT FRONT PIECE: Work as left front piece but reversed. In addition cast off for BUTTON HOLES on band - see explanation above. NOTE: Cast off shoulder sts from WS to continue on to collar without cutting the thread. Work 1st row on collar from RS. SLEEVE: Worked back and forth on needle. Cast on 42-44-46-48-50-52 sts (incl 1 edge st in each side) on needle size 4 mm with 2 threads Alpaca. Work 8 cm in garter st. Switch to needle size 5 mm and work in stocking st. AT THE SAME TIME when piece measures 10 cm, inc 1 st in each side. Repeat inc every 4½-4-4-3½-3-2½ cm a total of 9-10-10-11-12-13 times = 60-64-66-70-74-78 sts. When piece measures 50-49-48-47-46-45 cm (shorter measurements in the larger sizes because of longer sleeve cap and broader shoulder width) cast off for sleeve cap at beg of every row in each side: 4 sts 1 time, 2 sts 3 times and 1 st 1-2-3-4-5-6 times, then cast off 2 sts in each side until piece measures 57 cm, then cast off 3 sts 1 time in each side, cast off remaining sts. The piece now measures approx. 58 cm in all sizes. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams. Sew collar tog mid back, edge to edge to avoid a chunky seam and sew collar to neckline in the back. Sew in sleeves and sew under arm and side seams in one inside 1 edge st. Sew on buttons. |
