Knitted and felted sitting mat in 2 strands DROPS Big Delight. The piece is worked in the round with stocking stitch, from the middle out.

------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SITTING MAT – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with circular needle, middle out. Start with double pointed needles and change to circular needle when you have enough stitches. SITTING MAT: Cast on 8 stitches with 2 strands Big Delight and double pointed needles size 8 mm; divide the stitches on the 4 needles. Insert 1 marker at the beginning of the round. Work 1 round stocking stitch at the same time as you work 2 stitches in each stitch = 16 stitches. Work 1 round stocking stitch and insert 8 marker threads in the piece with 2 stitches between each one. Continue with stocking stitch and increase by making 1 yarn over after each marker thread every 2nd round (8 stitches increased). The yarn overs are knitted on the next round to leave holes. Change to circular needle when you have enough stitches. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Continue working and increasing in the same way until the piece measures 28 cm in radius (= from middle to edge); adjust so the last round is a round with yarn overs and you have enough yarn left to cast off with. Cast off with knit and make sure the edge is not tight. Cut and fasten the strand. ASSEMBLY: Gather the hole in the middle of the mat = cast-on edge. Tack a strand through the stitches, pull together slightly and fasten the strand. FELTING: Place the mat in the washing machine together with a towel and use a detergent without enzymes or optical bleaches. Wash at 40 degrees with normal centrifuge and without pre-wash. After washing shape the mat while still wet. Later wash as a normal wool garment. AFTER FELTING: If the piece is not felted enough and is too big: Wash the piece one more time in the washing machine while it is still wet add a terry towel that measures approx. 50 x 70 cm - NOTE: Do not use a short program. If the piece has been felted too much and is too small: While the piece is still wet stretch it to the correct measurements, if the piece is dry, make sure to soak it first. Remember: All subsequent washes are as a normal wool garment. |
