You ask for a 5.5 mm needle, but on Wool Warehouse site, for this yarn, they quote a 9 mm needle. Is this a US sizing?
21.11.2024 - 14:05DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Barton, that's right, the slippers are here worked with a tighter tension, ie with needle size 5,5 mm and 14 stitches x 27 rows in garter stitch = 10 x 10 cm. Happy knitting!

I'm having trouble with the yarn specified in that I find it very stiff when working with it. Is this just the nature of the yarn? Thanks

Worked back and forth on needle. Cast on 27-27-29-29 sts on needle size 5.5 mm with Snow (let the yarn end be approx. 20 cm; used for assembly). Work in GARTER ST – see explanation above, back and forth on needle until piece measures 17½-19½-22½-25½ cm - REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION. Work next row from RS as follows: K 1, then K sts tog 2 by 2 = 14-14-15-15 sts – READ KNITTING TIP! K 3 rows. Work next row from RS as follows: * K 5-5-3-3, K the next 2 sts tog *, repeat from *-* 2-2-3-3 times in total = 12 sts on needle. K 1 row. On next row K all sts tog 2 by 2 = 6 sts. Piece now measures approx. 21-23-26-29 cm. Cut the strands (let the yarn end be approx. 20 cm long; used for assembly) and pull it through the remaining sts, tighten tog. Knit another slipper. ASSEMBLY: Fold cast-on edge double and sew tog mid back. Sew tog edge to edge from toe and up to 1/3 of the slipper. Sew in edge sts to avoid a chunky seam. |
