MEASUREMENT TIP: It is important to adhere to the knitting tension in order the domino squares become quadratic. The diagonal of 1 square x 2 equals the foot length of the slipper. DOMINO SQUARE: Worked in garter st. Work 1 domino square as follows: Insert a marker in the middle st. ROW 1 (WS): K all sts. ROW 2 (RS): K sts on row until 1 st before marker, slip 1 st as if to K, K2 tog, psso, K remaining sts on row. Repeat row 1 and 2, i.e. dec 2 sts in the middle of square on every other row until there is 1 st left on needle. Cut the thread and pull through st. ------------------------------------------------------------ SLIPPER: Begin with the 4 squares under the slipper (= the sole) – see Fig.1. The arrows show the knitting direction. SEE MEASUREMENT TIP! SQUARE 1: Cast on 43-47-53 sts on needle size 2.5 mm with Fabel. Work 1 domino square – see above. SQUARE 2: Pick up (from RS) 21-23-26 sts in the cast on row of square-1, from the point to the st with marker, pick up 1 st in st with marker and now cast on 21-23-26 new sts = = 43-47-53 sts on row. Work 1 domino square. SQUARE 3: Pick up (from RS) 1 st in each of the new sts cast on for square-2, from the point to the st with marker on square-1 = 21-23-26 sts, pick up 1 st in st with marker and now cast on 21-23-26 new sts = 43-47-53 sts on row. Work 1 domino square. SQUARE 4: Pick up (from RS) 1 st in each of the new sts cast on for square-3, from the point to the st with marker on square-1 = 21-23-26 sts, pick up 1 st in st with marker and now pick up 21-23-26 sts in the cast on row the other side of square-1 = 43-47-53 sts on row. Work 1 domino square. THE REST OF THE SLIPPER: Fold square-2 and square-4 double, so that they are placed point to point – see Fig.2. Now work square-5 over square-1 = upper foot. Then square-6 = mid back on heel and complete the slipper with square-7 and square-8 = each side of slipper –see Fig 3a and 3b. SQUARE 5: Pick up (from RS) 21-23-26 sts along one side of square-4, cast on 1 new st and pick up 21-23-26 sts along one side of square-2 = 43-47-53 sts. Work 1 domino square. SQUARE 6: Pick up (from RS) 21-23-26 sts along one side of square-3, pick up 1 st in the point, and pick up 21-23-26 sts along the other side of square-3 = 43-47-53 sts. Work 1 domino square. SQUARE 7: Pick up (from RS) 21-23-26 sts along the other side of square-2, pick up 1 st between square-2 and square-6 and pick up 21-23-26 sts along the side of square-6 = 43-47-53 sts. Work 1 domino square. SQUARE 8: Pick up (from RS) 21-23-26 sts along the other side of square-4, pick up 1 st between square-4 and square-6 and pick up 21-23-26 sts along the other side of square-6 = 43-47-53 sts. Work 1 domino square. ASSEMBLY: Sew the opening at the front of slipper, i.e. sew the 2 remaining sides of square-1 to the 2 remaining sides of square-5. Sew tog in outer loops of sts to avoid a chunky seam. |
