Dear Jerry, you can click on one of the 2 links to patterns using that technique to have an idea of the number of sts as well as how to / when work the colours. We cast on here sts with only 1 colour, work 1 row from WS in this same colour (row 1 in pattern), then work row 2 from RS with this colour, row 3 from RS again with 2nd colour, row 4 from WS with 1st colour, row 5 from WS again with 2nd colour and repeat these 4 rows. Dear Helen, there are different techniques to work English rib/ Brioche as well as for casting on sts, the best is to test different techniques to find the one you rather use. Happy knitting!

Dear Lina, you first cast on your sts and work 1st row as stated in the pattern, then repeat row 2-5 as explained in the patterns and shown in the video. You will have to read pattern for both of these design to be able to follow the video. Happy knitting!

In this DROPS video we show how we start working a shawl in 2 coloured English rib, with 2 stitches increased from both right side and wrong side and 4 stitches increased from right side. This start with these increases are used in the “Sunset Hug” shawl in DROPS 211-20 and in the video, we show how to cast on 7 stitches and work row 1-15. In this DROPS video we show how to work 2-colour English rib in stripes where it works with the second colour on the edge stitches/band stitches and how to twist the strands together when changing colours. The edge stitches/band stitches works in garter stitches. ROW 1 (from RS): Work 5 edge stitches in garter stitch with the second colour, switch to the main colour, but twist the strands together to avoid holes and work English rib to the edge stitches on the other side. Lift the edge stitches over to the right needle, push the stitches back on the circular needle so the next row is also worked from the right side. ROW 2 (from RS): Lift the edge stitches over to the right needle, work English rib with the second colour and work 5 edge stitches in garter stitch, turn. ROW 3 (from WS): Work 5 edge stitches in garter stitch with the second colour, change to the main color, remember to twist the strands to avoid holes and work English rib to the edge stitches on the other side, lift the edge stitches over to the right needle. In this DROPS video we show how we work English rib in the round with 2 colour. We have already cast on, worked round 1 with green like this: * 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, knit 2 together *, work from *-* to end of round. The 2 rounds we shown in the video are round 2 and 3. ROUND 2 with colour Mauve: * Purl the yarn over and the slipped stitch together, 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to purl *, work from *-*. ROUND 3 with colour green: * 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, knit yarn over and slipped stitch together *, work from *-* (be careful; the last yarn over does not look like a yarn over, but the strand of colour 2 is at the front of the piece; lay the strand over to make a yarn over).
