I do like your videos but could you please produce them using the "English" way of knitting, with the yarn in the right hand. The continental method of purl stitches is hard to follow. Thank you.

It would be really helpful if you could pause and show what the work looks like, when you finished each row - the early rows in green look complicated, but it\'s impossible to compare my attempts with the correct outcome, because we never see what the work looks like properly for those rows.

How do I choose my needles for the double two-colour rib? If my yarn is for gauge 3, do I use 3 needles or thicker ones? I want the knit to be very fluffy but not to fall all over the place. Thanks for your help. And thanks for all the wonderful videos!

27.02.2017 - 19:51

DROPS Design answered:

Dear Ars, the best way to find the needle size you need is to work first a swatch, wash and block it then adjust needle size if necessary so that it will match the look you'd like to have. Happy knitting!

Success at last! My first attempt at the pretty hat did not make stripes. I was getting horizontal bars in front of the ribs. I watched the video carefully. However, I hold the yarn in my right hand (both hands for Fair Isle). I have Nancy Marchant's book about brioche knitting. She does say the "yo" is only laid over, not a strict "yarn forward, yarn around needle" as with lace knitting. I ripped out and began again. In one afternoon, a beautiful hat coming along.

Bon tricot!

Hello, I am knitting the hat from pattern 151-24. I am a little confused about the start up rows and wondered if you could set me strait. I have cast on 81 sts then knitted 1 row (that makes it a RS row I think). Then I have *p1, p2tog and repeated till end of row which makes it a WS row. But to start the English rib, row 1 needs to be a WS. Please advise me on what I might be doing wrong. Thanks so much! Lynda

01.01.2015 - 03:33

DROPS Design answered:

Dear Mrs Allen, in DROPS 151-24 you cast on 81 sts, then K 1 row (= WS), then work next row from RS (P1,P2 tog) and continue following pattern "English rib in 2 colours" with row 1, then repeat row 2-5. Happy knitting!

Hi, I would like to know how to start the English rib when the stitches are already casted on. It's obvious there is an order of the colors I can't get. How must I cast the stitches on - with the 2 colors or what? Thank you!

02.12.2014 - 18:28

DROPS Design answered:

Dear Jerry, you can click on one of the 2 links to patterns using that technique to have an idea of the number of sts as well as how to / when work the colours. We cast on here sts with only 1 colour, work 1 row from WS in this same colour (row 1 in pattern), then work row 2 from RS with this colour, row 3 from RS again with 2nd colour, row 4 from WS with 1st colour, row 5 from WS again with 2nd colour and repeat these 4 rows. Happy knitting!
