I don't understand how to continue when I knit the first A2-A4 and I have 55 sts on each side of the middle st, the instruction says add 1 A3 pattern to each side, but I don't get the number of stitches to match if I start A1 = 1s A3 = 17s and times 2 = 34 sts and A4 = 1 st, makes only 36 stitches in total, can you help me how to proceed?

Dear Mrs Marjo-Riitta Kurri, when diagrams have been worked 1 time in height, just start again from the start as follows: 2 sts in garter st, *A.2 (= 1 st), A.3 (= 17 sts) a total of 3 times (over the last 16 sts previous A.2 + previous A.3 + over the first 17 sts previous A.4), A.4 (= 1 st: the last st in previous A.4)*, 1 middle stitch as before, repeat from *-* to the next 2 sts and end with 2 sts in garter stithc. Happy knitting!

Hei.

DROPS Christmas: Knitted DROPS shawl with wave pattern and stripes in ”Delight” and “Alpaca”.

PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.4. The diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from RS. STRIPES: 1 stripe = 2 rows. First row is from RS. * Work 2 rows with Delight, work 2 rows with Alpaca *, repeat from *-*. GARTER ST (back and forth): K all rows. 1 ridge = 2 rows K. EDGE STS: On every row with K from WS in diagram work 1 YO between the 2 edge sts in each side of piece. On next row drop YO off the needle, do NOT work it. This is done to avoid a tight edge in garter st. MID ST: Work mid st in stocking st on all rows with stocking st in diagram, but on rows in diagram that are worked K from WS work mid st also like this. ---------------------------------------------------------- SHAWL: Worked back and forth on circular needle to make room for all the sts. The shawl is worked from neckline mid back and down. Work in STRIPES - see explanation above. Cast on 7 sts on circular needle size 4 mm with Delight. Insert 1 marker in the 4th st (= mid st) and move it upwards when working. Work diagram A.1 as follows: Work 2 edge sts in GARTER ST - see explanation above, A.1 over 1 st, 1 st in stocking st (= mid st), A.1 over 1 st and 2 edge sts in garter st. Continue with A.1 on each side of mid st (work mid st in stocking st in entire A.1), when diagram has been worked, 1 time vertically, there are 43 sts on row (i.e. 21 sts on each side of mid st). REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION Work according to diagram A.2-A.4 as follows: 2 EDGE STS - see explanation above, in garter st, A.2 over 1 st, A.3 over 17 sts, A.4 over 1 st, K 1 (= MID ST - see explanation above), A.2 over 1 st, A.3 over 17 sts, A.4 over 1 st and 2 edge sts in garter st. When diagrams have been worked 1 time vertically, there are 111 sts on needle (i.e. there are 55 sts on each side of mid st) and there is now room for 1 more repetition of A.3 on each side of A.3 on each side of shawl. Continue to work according to A.2-A.4 until diagrams have been worked 8 times in total vertically. There are now 587 sts on needle (i.e. 293 sts on each side of mid st). Loosely cast off as follows: * Cast off 3 sts, 1 YO, cast off YO *, repeat from *-* the rest of row. This is done to avoid a tight cast-off edge. |
