Tips & Help

Thank you for choosing DROPS Design!

We do our best to make our patterns easy to follow.

For that purpose, each of our patterns has specific tutorial videos to help you, which you will find at the bottom of the page.

We have also step-by-step lessons to help you understand some of the techniques we use in our patterns. You'll find them here!

NOTE: This pattern is written in British English. All measurements in charts are in cm. For conversion from cm to inches - click here. There are different terms for crocheting in British and American English. If this pattern includes crochet, click for "crochet terms" here. For this pattern in American English, please click here.
Measurement tip: Because of the weight of the yarn, all measurements should be made whilst the garment is hanging, otherwise it will be too long when worn.

Pattern: See diagram M.1 and M.2.
Diagram shows the pattern from RS.

Garter st, in the round: K 1 round, P 1 round.

Garter st, back and forth on needle: K all rows.

Back and front piece: Worked in the round on circular needle. Cast on 315-336-357-378-420-441 sts on 2 circular needle size 4 + 5 mm with 1 thread of each quality (to make the edge elastic). Remove needle size 4 mm and continue in the round on needle size 5 mm. Work 1 vertical repeat of M.1 (= 255-272-289-306-340-357 sts) and then continue in M.2 until piece measures 16-16-17-17-17-17- cm. See Measurement tip! Continue in stocking st, at the same time dec 35-38-41-42-56-51 sts evenly on first round = 220-234-248-264-284-306 sts. Insert 2 Marking Threads (MT) in piece, 1 at the beg of round and 1 after 110-117-124-132-142-153 sts (to mark the sides). Remember the knitting tension. Now dec 1 st on each side of both MT (4 dec per round) on every cm a total of 21 times = 136-150-164-180-200-222 sts. When piece measures 37-38-39-40-41-42 cm change to circular needle size 4 mm and inc 32-30-28-36-40-42 sts evenly = 168-180-192-216-240-264 sts. Work next round as follows: *K2, P4*, repeat from *-*. K 1 round on all sts and now continue in Rib as above. When piece measures 57-59-61-63-65-67 cm continue in garter st – see above – at the same time dec 16-12-10-14-16-16 sts evenly = 152-168-182-202-224-248 sts. Insert 2 MT in piece, 1 at the beg of round and 1 after 76-84-91-101-112-124 sts (to mark the sides). When piece measures 61-63-65-67-69-71 cm cast of 3 sts on each side of both MT for armhole and complete back and front pieces separately.

Back piece: = 70-78-85-95-106-118 sts. Dec to shape the armhole each side on every other row: 3 sts 0-0-0-1-1-1 times, 2 sts 0-1-2-2-3-5 times and 1 st 0-1-2-3-5-6 times = 70-72-73-75-78-80 sts. When piece measures 78-81-84-87-90-93 cm cast off the middle 28-28-29-29-30-30 sts for neck and dec 1 st on neckline on next row = 20-21-21-22-23-24 sts left on each shoulder. Cast off when piece measures 80-83-86-89-92-95 cm.

Front piece: 70-78-85-95-106-118 sts. Dec for armhole as described for back piece. At the same time when piece measures 66-69-72-73-76-79 cm slip the middle 8-8-9-9-10-10 sts on a thread for neck. Dec to shape the neckline on every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 2 times and 1 st 4 times = 20-21-21-22-23-24 sts left on shoulder. Cast off when piece measures 80-83-86-89-92-95 cm.

Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Pick up approx 88 to 98 sts (incl sts on thread) on circular needle size 4 mm round neckline and work 4 rounds garter st. Cast off. Sew on 3 buttons at the top of front piece (see photo). Thread the silk ribbon through row between rib border and garter st section and tie a bow at the front.
