Pattern instructions

Knitting Tension: 14 sts x 26 rows on needle size 4 mm in stocking st = 10 x 10 cm. NB! If using Vienna, knitting tension 14 sts x 16 rows = 10 x 10 cm.
Vienna: Dec materials by approx 30%. Use needle size 6 mm.
Inc and dec as follows:
Alter every other row to every and every other row alternately.
Alter every 4th row to every 6th row
Alter every 4th and 5th row alternately to every 7th row.
Garter st, back and forth on needle: K all rows.
Garter st, in the round: K 1 round, P 1 round.
Rib: *K3, P3, repeat from *-*.
Buttonholes: Cast off for buttonholes on right front band. 1 buttonhole = cast off 3rd and 4th st from mid front and cast on 2 new sts on return row. Make buttonholes when piece measures: 1.5-1-1, 10.5-10.5-9.5, 19-19.5-18, 28-29-26.5, 36.5-38-35, 45.5-47.5-43.5, 54-56.5-52, 63-66-60.5 and - - 69 cm.

Body piece: Worked back and forth on circular needle from mid front. Cast on 169-175-181 sts (includes 5 front band sts each side towards mid front) on needle size 4 mm and work 20 cm rib with 5 garter sts each side (= front bands). Remember buttonholes on right front band – see above. After rib continue in stocking st with front bands in garter st, at the same time inc 1-3-5 sts evenly on first row = 170-178-186 sts. Remember your knitting tension. When piece measures 49-52-54 cm work next row as follows: 43-45-47 sts on front piece, cast off 4 sts for armhole, 76-80-84 sts on back piece, cast off 4 sts for armhole, 43-45-47 sts on front piece. Now complete each piece separately.
Front piece: = 43-45-47 sts. Cast off to shape the armhole on every other row: 2 sts 1-2-2 times, 1 st 2-2-3 times = 39-39-40 sts. When piece measures 64-67-70 cm cast off to shape the neckline on every other row: 5-5-6 sts 1 time, 2 sts 3 times, 1 st 4 times. Cast off when piece measures 74-77-80 cm.
Back piece: = 76-80-84 sts. Cast off for armhole as described for front piece = 68-68-70 sts. When piece measures 72-75-78 cm cast off the middle 16-16-18 sts for neck and dec 2 sts on neckline on next row. Cast off remaining sts when piece measures 74-77-80 cm.

Sleeves: Cast on 30-30-30 sts (includes 1 edge st each side) on needle size 4 mm and work 8 cm rib with 1 edge st each side. Continue in stocking st, at the same time inc 1 st each side inside edge st a total of 20-20-21 times on every 4th row for size S + L and on every 4th and 5th row alternately for size M = 70-70-72 sts. When piece measures 44-45-46 cm cast off for sleeve cap each side on every other row: 2 sts 9 times. Cast off, sleeve measures approx 51-52-53 cm.

Assembly: Join shoulders. Sew sleeve seams. Pick up approx 53 to 59 sts (divisible by 6 + 3 + 2 edge sts) round the neck from the WS – do not pick up on front bands – on needle size 4 mm and work rib with 1 edge st st each side in garter st, at the same time inc 1 st on each side of K3 on both shoulders on every 4th row a total of 6 times, work another 1 cm rib and cast off. Collar measures approx 10 cm. Set in sleeves and sew on buttons.
