I am extremely sad..tried to do this over and over and over but can't get pass the first bit. The 5 needles is too much for me and the project looks full of holes. Is just very difficult.

Hi Susana! I'm sorry for that. But definitely don't give up! Holding 5 needles seems complicated, but it's just a matter of practice. :-) You can also try it with 2 short (40 cm) circular needles instead - it's easier to hold, it's easier to tighten the stitches and there's no risk of the needle falling out. Fingers crossed :-)!

Knitted bag in DROPS Paris or DROPS Bomull-Lin. The piece is worked in the round, in 2 squares with garter stitch.

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked in the round): 1 ridge in height = 2 rounds; Knit 1 round and purl 1 round. INCREASE TIP: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is knitted twisted on the next round to avoid a hole. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- BAG - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The bag consists of 2 squares, which are worked with double pointed needles and garter stitch, in the round from the centre outwards. Change to circular needle when you have increased to enough stitches. The 2 squares are knitted together on 3 sides. A cord is worked to finish, thread through the side seams and tied together. SQUARE 1: Cast on 8 stitches with double pointed needles size 4.5 mm and DROPS Paris or DROPS Bomull-Lin. Divide the stitches between 4 needles with 2 stitches on each needle. Knit 1 round. Insert 4 markers (without working the stitches) in the first, third, fifth and seventh stitches. The marker-stitches are knitted on all rounds, the other stitches are worked in GARTER STITCH – read description above. Work garter stitch in the round – AT THE SAME TIME increase 1 stitch on each side of the 4 marker-stitches – read INCREASE TIP (8 stitches increased). Increase like this every 2nd round (each purled round). REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Continue working until the square measures 14 cm from the middle – measured across the middle of one side and the last round was purled (but without increasing) = approx. 200 stitches. Square 1 is finished. Place the stitches between the fourth and first marker-stitches on 1 thread = top edge. The other stitches and the 4 marker-stitches are placed on circular needle size 4.5 mm (these stitches will be knitted together with their corresponding stitches on square 2). Cut and fasten the strand. Tack another strand up and down around the hole in the middle, pull tight to close the hole. Fasten the strands. SQUARE 2: Cast on and work in the same way as square 1 but finish after a knitted round and with the same number of stitches as on square 1. Place the stitches between the fourth and first marker-stitches on 1 strand = top edge. Keep the other stitches and the four marker-stitches on circular needle size 4.5 mm ASSEMBLY: The squares are now knitted together at the same time as stitches are cast off as follows. Lay the squares together, wrong side to wrong side and square 1 towards you. Work as follows from the right side: * Knit together 1 stitch from both the front and back needles, working through both stitches simultaneously *, work from *-* 1 more time, pass the back stitch on the right needle over the front stitch on the right needle (= 1 stitch cast off). ** Knit together 1 stitch from both the front and back needles, working through both stitches, pass the back stitch on the right needle over the front stitch on the right needle (= 1 stitch cast off) **, work from **-** until the stitches on all 3 sides are knitted together and cast off. Place the stitches from the 2 threads on circular needle size 4.5 mm. Cast off without working the stitches together – NOTE: To avoid the piece being tight in the transitions between the 2 squares, knit up 1 or 2 stitches in the transitions while casting off. CORD: Cast on 4 stitches with double pointed needles size 4.5 mm. Knit 1 row. * Push the stitches back to the beginning of the needle without turning the piece, tighten the strand and knit the stitches from the right side again *, work from *-* until the cord measures 125 cm. Cut and fasten the strand. Thread one end of the cord through one side of the bag, approx. 1 cm from the top edge. Thread the other end of the cord through the other side of the bag, approx. 1 cm from the top edge. Tie the ends of the cord together. |
