Bon tricot!

Gauge: 23 sts x 46 rows in garter st = 10 x 10 cm. You must get the right st and row gauge in order for this pattern to work out. The row gauge must be double the st gauge. Pattern: See charts. The pattern is knit entirely in garter st and each row of the chart = 2 rows. Right Front (as when the garment is worn): Read the entire front section before knitting: You start at the side and knit toward the center front, at the same time casting on sts for sleeve on the left side of piece. Change colors on the right side of piece. Each row of the chart is 2 rows of garter st. The cast-on edge and Row 1 below are the first row of the chart. Rows 2 and 3 are the second row of the chart. Cast on 76-78-81-83-85 sts on circular needles with beige. Knit stripes following chart for Pattern 1 as explained below: Row 1 (= wrong side): K 1, place a marker, K the remaining sts. Row 2 (= right side & 2nd row of chart): K all sts, inc 1 st before the marker and 1 st after the marker by knitting 2 sts in 1 st. These inc are for the raglan shaping. Row 3: (= wrong side): K all sts without inc. Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows a total of 44-48-52-57-62 times. At the same time, at the very end of each row (from right side) cast on for sleeve as follows: 1 st 0-5-11-20-27 times, 2 sts 26-24-21-19-14 times and 3 sts 5-4-3-0-0 times. After all incs are complete, you have 231-239-247-255-264 sts. Put the 119-125-132-139-146 sts on one side of the marker (= front) on a st holder. Continue with Pattern 1 over the remaining 112-114-115-116-118 sts on the other side of the marker for sleeve – and at the same time dec 1 st for the neck every other row 5-6-7-8-9 times = 107-108-108-108-109 sts. When the piece measures 59-62-65-68-71 cm in length (measured from lower edge to shoulder) bind off all sts. Left front: Knit the same as the right reversing shaping. Right back: Knit the same as left front – but after all incs (= 231-239-247-255-264 sts), put sleeve sts on a st holder and continue Pattern 1 over the remaining sts (toward center back) until the piece measures 28.5-31-33.5-36-38.5 cm in width, then bind off. Left back: Knit the same as the right back, reversing shaping. Shoulder on back: Sew the two backs together at center back. Put sts from st holder on one side (= 112-114-115-116-118 sts) on needles, then pick up 34 sts at center back, then put knit sts from the other st holder (= 112-114-115-116-118 sts) back on needles = 258-262-264-266-270 sts. Continue Pattern 1 over all sts. When the piece measures 57-60-63-66-69 cm bind off the center 38-40-42-44-46 sts for the neck and knit each shoulder separately. Bind off at each neck edge every other row: 2 sts 1 time and 1 st 1 time = 107-108-108-108-109 sts remain on each shoulder. When the piece measures 59-62-65-68-71 cm bind off all sts. Assembly: Sew shoulder- and side seams. Cuff: Pick up 58-62-66-70-74 sts around lower edge of sleeves with beige and knit Pattern 2 – start at the top of chart and work to the bottom, then knit 16 more rows garter st in flint, then bind off. Repeat on the other sleeve. Lower edge: Pick up 230-253-276-300-322 sts with beige around the entire bottom edge. Knit Pattern 2 – start at the top of chart and work to the bottom, then bind off all sts. The cardigan is approx. 72-75-78-81-84 cm long. Left button band: Put sts from st holder at the center front back on needles and pick up 30 sts along edge of lower edge band = 149-155-162-169-176 sts. Continue Pattern 1 – and bind off at the neck edge every other row: 1 st 1 time and 2 sts 2 times. When the piece measures 29-31-34-36-39 cm in width knit 12 rows garter st with flint and then bind off. Right button band: Knit the same as the left. When 6 rows remain make 5 buttonholes evenly distributed along buttonband. The top buttonhole should be 7 cm from top and the bottom buttonhole approx. 20 cm from lower edge. 1 buttonhole = bind off 2 sts and cast on 2 new sts over the bound off sts on the next row. Collar: Pick up approx. 120-140 sts around the neck with flint and knit garter st. When the collar measures 1, 6, 10 and 15 cm make a buttonhole over the others on button bands (the last 2 buttonholes need to meet up with the first 2 when the collar is folded over). At the same time when the collar measures 3, 5 and 7 cm dec 10 sts evenly distributed on the row. Then when the collar measures 9, 11 and 13 cm inc 10 sts evenly distributed on the row. When the collar measures 16 cm bind off all sts. Fold the collar to wrong side and stitch in place to picked up edge. Sew on buttons. |
