Dear Jan, there are no really alternative matching the composition of this discontinued yarn, -you can use our yarn converter to find any suggestions - your DROPS store will help you finding the best alternative - do not hesitate to contact them even per mail or telephone. Happy kniting!

When you put half the sts on a st holder, it's best to make sure the yarn that you are working with stays at the side you will continue with, and not with the part on the st holder. Work the piece to the end and then cut the thread. Start the other side with the same skein, and this way you don't have to start on a new skein.

Knitting Tension: 9 sts x 10 rows using 12mm needle in stocking stitch = 10 x 10 cm. Garter stitch: 1st row: knit, 2nd row: knit Knitting tips I: Knit the first and the last st on row into back of st(until all inc are made for the sleeves)in order to avoid holes when assembling the jumper. Knitting tips II(applies to neck slit): Knit the first row on the second front piece from mid front. Begin by picking up 1 st in first st on the other front piece and knit this st together with first st on row. This will prevent notches at the bottom of the slit. Measuring tips: Because of the weight of the yarn, all measurements should be made while the garment is hanging. Jumper: The jumper is knitted in 2 pieces with increases for sleeves on front and back pieces. Front: Please see Measuring Tips and Knitting Tips I! Loosely cast on 36-40-44-48-54 sts using 12mm needle and knit 4 rows garter stitch. Continue in stocking stitch with 3 sts each side in garter st (= side slit). When front piece measures 22 cm, discontinue the slit and knit stocking st over all sts. When piece measures 24 and 35 cm, dec 1 st each side = 32-36-40-44-50 sts. Remember to check your knitting tension! Read all of the next section before continuing! Inc for sleeves: When piece measures 42-44-46-48-50 cm cast on new sts for sleeves on every other row (i.e. at the end of each row) as follows: 1 st 1 time, 2 sts 1 time, 3 sts 2 times, 5 sts 4-4-4-4-3 times, 1 st 0-0-0-0-1 times and 9-9-8-7-8 sts 1 time = 38-38-37-36-33 new sts each side. When continuing, knit the 3 sts each side in garter st and the remaining sts in stocking st. Neck slit: At the same time, when piece measures 47-50-53-56-59 cm, knit 4 rows garter st over the middle 4 sts (remaining sts in stocking stitch). Continue knitting 1 row (all sts) from the right side, purl 1 row from the wrong side, but the middle 8 sts in garter st, knit 1 row from the right side (all sts). Now divide the piece mid front for neck slit and finish each side separately. Put half the sts on a thread. Left side: Purl 1 row from the wrong side with the 4 sts towards mid front in garter st, knit 1 row from the right side, purl 1 row from the wrong side but the 6 sts towards mid front in garter st, knit 1 row from the right side, purl 1 row from the wrong side but the 9 sts towards mid front in garter st, knit 1 row from the right side and purl 1 row from the wrong side but the 10 sts towards mid front in garter st, at the same time casting off the 4 outermost sts towards mid front. Now knit 1 row from the right side, purl 1 row from the wrong side but the 6 sts towards mid front in garter st, at the same time casting off the 2 outermost sts towards mid front, knit 1 row from the right side, purl 1 row from the wrong side but the 4 sts towards mid front in garter st, at the same time casting off the 1 outermost st. Now continue in stocking sts with the 3 sts towards mid front in garter st until finished measurements. When piece measures 68-71-74-77-80 cm – remember Measuring Tips! –,put sts on a thread = 47-49-50-51-51 sts. Right side: Put sts from thread back on needle and knit as left side with dec towards mid front – see Knitting Tips II. Back: Cast on and knit as front, but without the dec for neck slit. After all inc have been made for the sleeves, there are 108-112-114-116-116 sts on needle. When piece measures 62-65-68-71-74 cm knit 4 rows garter stitch over the middle 18 sts. Now cast off the middle 12 sts from the right side for neck and purl 1 row from the wrong side with 4 sts towards the neckline in garter st, and at the same time casting off 1 st towards the neckline. Put remaining sts on a thread and repeat the other side – piece measures approx 68-71-74-77-80 cm and there are 47-49-50-51-51 sts on each thread. Assembly: Join shoulders and sleeve seams using “invisible” stitches – see Fig.1. Sew sleeve and side seams in the outer loop of the outermost st down to the slit (with 4 rows garter st over the slit). Sew in every knitted st and make sure the seam doesn’t pull. |
