After I worked Rows 1 to 8 of A1, A4, A5 A1, patterns says to repeat row 1-8 . I don't understand " At the same time on these rows with additional inc, do not inc before A and after marker B ( so that no of stitches is correct " Do I still work 2 stitched in the first and last stitch ? Thanks

Dear Esperanza, you still work 2 stitches in the first and last stitches. You don't work 1 yarn over before the marker stitch A and after the marker stitch B (i.e as in ROW 4), so that the central part is increased but the sides are not increased in that row. Happy knitting!

Can I knit this on single needles-not circular ones?
11.10.2014 - 23:12DROPS Design answered:
Dear Missknitbit, the shawl is worked back and forth on circular needle to get enough room for all sts. You can then use straight needles but your sts will be tighter on needle, take care to keep the correct tension or get help with our videos. Happy knitting!

Knitted DROPS shawl with lace and textured pattern in ”BabyAlpaca Silk”.

PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.5. Diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from RS. ---------------------------------------------------------- SHAWL: Worked back and forth on circular needle. Beg at the top and work downwards/outwards. Cast on 86 sts on circular needle size 3 mm with BabyAlpaca Silk and work as follows: Row 1 (= WS): K all sts. Row 2 (= RS): Work 2 sts in first st, K 2, 1 YO, insert 1 marker (= A), work pattern according to diagram A.1 (= 21 sts), work A.2 (= 19 sts), A.3 (= 19 sts), work A.1 (= 21 sts), insert 1 marker (= B), 1 YO, K 2, work 2 sts in last st = 90 sts. Row 3 (= WS): Work 2 sts in first st, P until marker B, continue pattern until marker A, P until 1 st remains on row, work 2 sts in last st = 92 sts. Row 4 (= RS): Work 2 sts in first st, K until marker A, 1 YO, (marker), continue pattern as before until marker B, (marker), 1 YO, K until 1 st remains on row, work 2 sts in last st = 96 sts. Row 5 (= WS): Work 2 sts in first st, P until marker B, continue pattern until marker A, P until 1 st remains on row, work 2 sts in last st = 98 sts. Continue pattern like this with 2 sts in outermost st on every row and YOs at the markers on every row from RS. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! AT THE SAME TIME when A.2 and A.3 have been worked 1 time vertically, continue as follows: Row 1 (= RS): Work 2 sts in first st, K until 2 sts remain before marker A, K 2 tog, 1 YO, (marker), work A.1 as before, work A.4, work A.5, work A.1 as before, (marker), 1 YO, slip 1 st as if to K, K 1, psso, K until 1 st remains on row, work 2 sts in last st (= 4 sts inc). Row 2 (= WS): Work 2 sts in first st, P until marker B, continue pattern until marker A, P until 1 st remains on row, work 2 sts in last st (= 2 sts inc). Row 3 (= RS): Work 2 sts in first st, K until marker A, 1 YO, (marker), work pattern as before until marker B, (marker), 1 YO, K until 1 st remains on row, work 2 sts in last st (= 4 sts inc). Row 4 (= WS): Work 2 sts in first st, P until marker B, continue pattern until marker A, P until 1 st remains on row, work 2 sts in last st (= 2 sts inc). Row 5 (= RS): Work 2 sts in first st, K until marker A, 1 YO, (marker), work pattern as before until marker B, (marker), 1 YO, K until 1 st remains on row, work 2 sts in last st (= 4 sts inc). Row 6 (= WS): Work 2 sts in first st, P until marker B, continue pattern until marker A, P until 1 st remains on row, work 2 sts in last st (= 2 sts inc). Row 7 (= RS): Work 2 sts in first st, K until marker A, 1 YO, (marker), work pattern as before until marker B, (marker), 1 YO, K until 1 st remains on row, work 2 sts in last st (= 4 sts inc). Row 8 (= WS): Work 2 sts in first st, P until marker B, continue pattern until marker A, P until 1 st remains on row, work 2 sts in last st (= 2 sts inc). Repeat rows 1 to 8, i.e. on 1st row every time these 8 rows are repeated there is an inc in A.4 and A.5 so that the mid section becomes bigger. AT THE SAME TIME on these rows with additional inc, do not inc before A and after marker B (so that no of sts is correct), but to continue the row with eyelet holes, dec 1 st before first YO and 1 st after last YO (work the other sts as before). When piece measures approx. 40 cm in the middle - stop after one whole repetition of A.1 vertically, K 5 rows (1st row = RS). Then LOOSELY cast off with K from WS – NOTE: To avoid the cast-off edge at the tip to become too tight and bend, make a yo on each side of the 2 mid sts on shawl WHILE casting off (cast off yo's as sts). |
