Do you have a video on how to do the arch on the heart? Thanks.
12.12.2024 - 23:48DROPS Design answered:
Dear Dane, there is no specific video for this. You have a chess-like square (lower square). Then you pick up stitches on this square, starting from the red square on the edge and work in red in garter stitch back and forth while decreasing (shaping the arch). Then pick up from the other side of the small red square in the chess square and pick up stitches towards the other side, for the off-white arch. Happy knitting!

GARTER ST (back and forth on needle): K all rows. HEART BASKET: Make 2 hearts and sew them tog afterwards. HEART 1: SQUARE PATTERN: To make the square pattern work 4 pieces with 4 squares each and sew the pieces tog afterwards. Cast on 5 sts with red on needle size 9 mm and work 10 rows garter st – SEE ABOVE. Change to off-white and work 10 rows garter st, now work 10 rows red garter st and then 10 rows off-white garter st. Cut the thread and put piece aside. Make 1 identical piece. Then make 2 pieces, beg with off-white and finishing with red (i.e. opposite colour way). ARCH 1: slip sts from all 4 pieces on needle size 9 mm, with red square towards off-white and off-white square towards red = 20 sts. Continue in red garter st, AT THE SAME TIME after 10 rows dec 1 st each side by K2 tog inside 1 edge. Repeat the dec on every 4th row 2 times and then on every other row 2 times = 10 sts left, cast off. Sew pieces tog, edge to edge with red from RS. ARCH 2: Pick up 1 st in every other row along the side of the square pattern piece, opposite ARCH-1 with off-white = 20 sts. Work like ARCH 1. HEART 2: Like HEART 1, but mirrored, i.e. work square pattern pieces in the same way, but work ARCH 1 in off-white and ARCH 2 in red. ASSEMBLY: Place the 2 hearts WS against WS. Sew tog edge to edge from where dec beg on ARCH1, along the square pattern pieces and up along the other side of the square pattern pieces to where dec beg on ARCH 2. HANDLE: Pick up 5 sts on needle size 9 mm with red on one side of heart, at the top between the 2 arches. Work 50 cm garter st back and forth on needle, cast off and sew handle to the other side of heart. FELTING: Wash heart in the washing machine with detergent free of enzymes and optical bleach. Wash at 40 degrees, with normal spin but no pre-wash. After wash shape the heart while still wet, and leave to dry flat. AFTER FELTING: If the piece is not felted enough and is too big: Wash the piece one more time in the washing machine while it is still wet add a terry towel that measures approx. 50 x 70 cm - NOTE: Do not use a short program. If the piece has been felted too much and is too small: While the piece is still wet stretch it to the correct measurements, if the piece is dry, make sure to soak it first. Remember: All subsequent washes are as a normal wool garment. |
