The instructions for the coasters is cast on 84 stitches, isn't that an awful lot of stitches for the coaster?
11.04.2022 - 19:50DROPS Design answered:
Dear Shirley, as you can calculate with the gauge, working 84 stitches according to the gauge in the pattern will give you the 44 cm needed in the final product. So it's correct. Happy knitting!

DROPS design: Pattern nr R-440 Yarn group C -------------------------------------------------------- MEASUREMENTS: Approx. 18 cm in diameter. MATERIALS: DROPS Paris from Garnstudio 100 g colour 17, off white, for 2 pot-holders. CROCHET HOOK DROPS CROCHET HOOK SIZE 4 MM. CROCHET TENSION:16 double crochets in width and 16 rows in height = 10 x 10 cm. Hook size is only a guide. If you get too many stitches on 10 cm, change to a larger hook size. If you get too few stitches on 10 cm, change to a smaller hook size. CROCHET TIP: The first double crochet on each round is replaced by 2 chain stitches. So the pot-holder is the same back and front the piece is turned after each round. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- POT-HOLDER: Work 4 chain stitches and form them into a ring with 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch. Read CROCHET TIP! ROUND 1: Work 6 double crochets around the ring and finish with 1 slip stitch in the first double crochet, turn. ROUND 2: Work 2 double crochets in each stitch and finish with 1 slip stitch in the first double crochet, turn = 12 stitches. ROUND 3: Alternate with 1 double crochet then 2 double crochets in every other stitch, finish with 1 slip stitch in the first double crochet, turn = 18 stitches. ROUND 4: Alternate with 1 double crochet in 2 stitches then 2 double crochets in every 3rd stitch, finish with 1 slip stitch in the first stitch, turn = 24 stitches. Continue like this with 1 more double crochet between increases on each round until the pot-holder measures 16 cm in diameter. Work the next round as follows: 3 chain stitches (= 1 treble crochet), * 1 chain stitch, skip 1 stitch and fasten with 1 treble crochet *, repeat from *-*, increasing at the same 6 places as earlier, finish with 1 slip stitch in the 3rd chain stitch at the beginning of the round. Turn and work 1 round with 1 double crochet around each chain stitch and 1 double crochet in each treble crochet. Work 1 loop as follows: Work 8 chain stitches and fasten with 1 double crochet in the next stitch, then work 10 double crochets around the loop. Cut and fasten the strand. |
