Bon tricot!

Knitted and felted slippers for children in DROPS Alaska. Sizes 26-43.

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge = knit 2 rows. INCREASE TIP: Work to 1 stitch past marker-1, make 1 yarn over, work until there is 1 stitch left before marker-2, make 1 yarn over, work 2 stitches (marker sits between these 2 stitches), 1 yarn over, work until there is 1 stitch left before marker-1, make 1 yarn over and work the last stitch = 4 stitches increased. On the next round knit the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. DIAGRAM: See diagram A.1 - the diagram shows how the knitting direction and where the slipper is sewn. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SLIPPERS – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The slipper is worked from the toe, first in the round then divided for the opening and finished back and forth. The heel is sewn together and the slipper is felted. SLIPPER: Cast on 8 stitches with double pointed needles size 5.5 mm and DROPS Alaska. Knit 1 round. Insert 2 markers without working the stitches, marker-1 at the beginning of the round and marker-2 after 4 stitches – allow the markers to follow your work onwards. Work stocking stitch in the round and increase 4 stitches on the next round – read INCREASE TIP. Increase like this every round a total of 6-6-7-7-8-9 times = 32-32-36-36-40-44 stitches. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Continue with stocking stitch until the piece measures 6-7-8-10-12½-15½ cm. Knit 1 round and increase 0-2-0-2-2-2 stitches evenly between markers 1 and 2 (ie between the beginning of the round and the second marker) = 32-34-36-38-42-46 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch until the piece measures 12-12-13½-15-18-22 cm. Knit 3-3-2-2-3-4, cast off 1 stitch, knit 8-10-12-14-14-14 and place these stitches on a thread (= flap), cast off 1 stitch, knit 19-19-20-20-23-26 and then knit the first 3-3-2-2-3-4 stitches again = 22-22-22-22-26-30 stitches on needle. UNDERSIDE: Work stocking stitch with 1 edge stitch in GARTER STITCH on each side – read description above. On the next row from the right side increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over inside both edge stitches. On the next row purl the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. Increase like this on each row from the right side a total of 5-5-6-6-7-6 times on each side = 32-32-34-34-40-42 stitches. Continue back and forth with stocking stitch and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch until the piece measures 21-22-25-28-30-34 cm and the next row is from the right side. Now decrease for the heel as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Knit 14-14-15-15-18-19, knit 2 together 2 times and knit 14-14-15-15-18-19 = 30-30-32-32-38-40 stitches. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work back as before. ROW 3 (= right side): Knit 13-13-14-14-17-18, knit 2 together 2 times and knit 13-13-14-14-17-18 = 28-28-30-30-36-38 stitches. ROW 4 (= wrong side): Work back as before. Cast off with knit from the right side. The piece measures 23-24-27-30-32-36 cm. FLAP: Place the 8-10-12-14-14-14 stitches from the thread back on needle size 5.5 mm. Work garter stitch back and forth; on the first row knit the 2 outermost stitches together on each side. Decrease like this every 4th row a total of 2 times = 4-6-8-10-10-10 stitches. Knit 1 row from the right side and cast off with knit from the wrong side. ASSEMBLY: Fold the piece so the cast-off edge on the heel is edge to edge. See diagram A.1 that shows how the slipper is assembled. Sew together in the outermost loop of the outermost stitch so the seam is flat. Baste a thread through the stitches from the cast on edge, tighten and fasten well. Work 1 more slipper in the same way. FELTING: Place the slippers in the washing machine using a detergent without enzymes or optical bleaches. Wash at 40 degrees with normal centrifuge and without pre-wash. After washing, shape the slippers while still wet. Later wash as a normal wool garment. AFTER FELTING: If the piece is not felted enough and is too big: Wash the piece one more time in the washing machine while it is still wet add a terry towel that measures approx. 50 x 70 cm - NOTE: Do not use a short program. If the piece has been felted too much and is too small: While the piece is still wet stretch it to the correct measurements, if the piece is dry, make sure to soak it first. Remember: All subsequent washes are as a normal wool garment. |
