------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge in height = Knit 2 rows. KNITTING TIP (for head band): So the head band fits well, work the piece 7-8 cm shorter than your head size. ENGLISH RIB (back and forth): ROW 1 (= from right side): Work edge stitch as described in the text, * knit 1, work 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to purl *, work from *-* until there is 1 stitch left before the edge stitch(es), knit 1 and finish with edge stitch as described in the text. ROW 2 (= from wrong side): Work edge stitch as described, * 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, knit the yarn over and slipped stitch together *, work from *-* until there is 1 stitch left before the edge stitch(es), 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to purl and work the edge stitch as described. ROW 3 (= from right side): Work edge stitch as described, * knit the yarn over and slipped stitch together, 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to purl *, work from *-* until there is 1 stitch left before the edge stitch(es), knit the yarn over and slipped stitch together and finish by working the edge stitch as described. Repeat rows 2 and 3 onwards. ENGLISH RIB (in the round): ROUND 1: *Knit 1, make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, *, repeat from *-* to end of round. ROUND 2: * Make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, purl together the yarn over and slipped stitch, *, repeat from *-* to end of round. ROUND 3: * Knit together the yarn over and the slipped stitch, make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to purl *, repeat from *-* to end of round. Repeat rounds 2 and 3 onwards. PATTERN (for neck warmer): See diagram A.5. DIAGRAMS (for head band): See diagrams A.1 to A.4. The diagrams are used when assembling the head band. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- HEAD BAND – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth. The ends are then sewn together, creating a cable mid-front. HEAD BAND : Cast on 15-15-17-19 stitches slightly loosely, with single pointed needles size 3.5 mm and 1 strand of each quality (= 2 strands). Work 1 RIDGE back and forth – read description above. Change to single pointed needles size 4.5 mm and work ENGLISH RIB (back and forth) – read description above, with 1 edge stitch on each side. Slip the first edge stitch on row and knit the last stitch on row. Do this from the right and the wrong side. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Work until the head band measures 40-42-44-46 cm from the cast-on edge – read KNITTING TIP, change to single pointed needles size 3.5 mm. Work 1 ridge and loosely cast off with knit from the right side. ASSEMBLY: The piece is a rectangle, fold it double lengthwise – see diagram A.1. Now the long-sides are laid on top of each other, without twisting the piece – see diagram A.2. The sides lie alternately and the ends are even – see diagram A.3. Now sew through all the layers as follows: Sew along the broken line in diagram A.4 (over the ends), sew with close grafting stitches and with 1 stitch in each stitch – it is important you sew through all the layers so the seam is invisible when the piece is turned inside out. Cut and fasten the strand. Turn the piece inside out so the seam is on the inside. ------------------------------------------------------- NECK WARMER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with circular needle, top down. Then the piece is divided to give a split in the sides and each piece is finished back and forth separately. NECK WARMER: Cast on a little loosely 62-62-74-86 stitches with circular needle size 4 mm and 1 strand Alpaca and 2 strands Kid-Silk (= 3 strands). Remove 1 strand of Kid-Silk. The rest of the piece is worked with 1 strand of each quality (casting on in this way avoids the cast-on edge being tight). Knit 1 round. Then work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 2 cm. Continue as follows: * Change to circular needle size 4.5 mm and work 5-6-7-8 cm ENGLISH RIB (in the round) – read description above, change to circular needle size 4 mm and work A.5 *, repeat from *-* one more time. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Now divide the piece in each side and finish each section back and forth separately as described below: Keep the next 31-31-37-43 stitches on circular needle size 4.5 mm and place the remaining 31-31-37-43 stitches on a thread. Work ENGLISH RIB (back and forth) with 3 edge stitches in garter stitch on each side. Continue until the piece measures 20-23-26-29 cm from the cast-on edge, next row is worked as follows - from the right side: Work 3 stitches in garter stitch, * knit the yarn over and the slipped stitch together, purl 1 *, work from *-* until 1 stitch remain before the edge stitches, knit the yarn over and the slipped stitch together and finish with 3 stitches in garter stitch. Change to circular needles 4. Work rib back and forth in 2 cm with knit over knit, purl over purl with 3 edge stitches in each side. Cast off with garter stitch over garter stitch, knit over knit and purl over purl. The neck warmer measures approx. 22-25-28-31 cm from the cast-on edge down. Place the stitches from the thread back on circular needle 4,5 and work in the same way as the first part. |
