Felted DROPS bag in ”Alaska” with tassels.
DROPS 119-37 |
|
BAG: Worked in the round on circular needle. Cast on 154 sts on circular needle size 5 mm with Alaska. Insert 1 marker at beg of round and 1 marker after 77 sts. Work stocking st for 43 cm. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Work next round as follows: * Slip 7 sts on cable needle behind piece, [K 1 st from needle tog with 1 st from cable needle], repeat from [-] until all 7 sts from cable needle have been knitted *, repeat from *-* a total of 5 times, K 7 sts, repeat from *-* another 5 times and K the last 7 sts = 84 sts. Change to small circular needle and P 1 round, K 1 round and P 1 round, cast off with K sts. Sew bag tog at bottom – make sure that the markers inserted at the beg are at the sides. STRAP: Worked back and forth on short circular needle. Cast on 8 sts on small circular needle size 5 mm with Alaska. Continue as follows: *K1, place thread in front of piece, slip 1 st as if to P, place thread behind piece again *, repeat from *-* across the row. Turn piece and repeat from *-* on all rows. Knitting like this creates a tube. Cast off when piece measures approx 80 cm. Knit one more strap in the same way. Sew straps to each side of bag, approx 4 cm in from the sides. TASSELS: Cut 14 threads Alaska measuring approx 25 cm each and fold them double. Take 1 new thread and tie it round the threads approx 3 cm from the top. With your fingers, crochet a string measuring approx 7 cm, sew the one end of string to the top of tassel and sew the other end to the bag – sew just below the 2 garter st rows at the top, approx 5 cm from the side. Make 1 more tassel in the same way, but crochet a string measuring 14 cm. FELTING: Wash the bag in the washing machine at 40 degrees with a detergent free of enzymes and optical bleach (normal spin and no pre-wash). Shape the bag while still wet and leave to dry flat. AFTER FELTING: If the piece is not felted enough and is too big: Wash the piece one more time in the washing machine while it is still wet add a terry towel that measures approx. 50 x 70 cm - NOTE: Do not use a short program. If the piece has been felted too much and is too small: While the piece is still wet stretch it to the correct measurements, if the piece is dry, make sure to soak it first. Remember: All subsequent washes are as a normal wool garment. |
