Buon lavoro!

First of all, I love your designs. My question is why are there no written row by row instructions? I get totally confused by charts and diagrams. Is there any way to get written directions? Thank you!
15.06.2020 - 19:23DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Boyd By, The DROPS patterns are knitted and crocheted by thousands and thousands of people around the world. We understand however that in certain countries, with different knitting/crochet traditions than Scandinavia, our patterns might be written in a way that differs from what some are used to. But of course we want everyone to understand our patterns, so that’s why we have created an extensive library of tutorial videos as well as step by step lessons that explain how to follow the techniques we use and how to read the diagrams in our patterns, try for example this lesson. Happy knitting!

Buon lavoro!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): 1 ridge = Knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.8. The diagrams show all the rows in the pattern seen from the right side and all rows are worked in stocking stitch. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SHAWL - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth with circular needle so that there is room for all the stitches. It is worked top down. SHAWL: Cast on 5 stitches with circular needle size 5 mm and 1 strand Baby Alpaca Silk and 1 strand Kid-Silk. ROW 1: Knit. ROW 2: Knit 1, 1 yarn over, knit 3, 1 yarn over and knit 1 (= 2 stitches increased). There are 7 stitches on needle. ROW 3: Knit. ROW 4: Knit 2, 1 yarn over, knit 1, 1 yarn over, knit 1, 1 yarn over, knit 1, 1 yarn over and knit 2 (= 4 stitches increased). There are 11 stitches on needle. ROW 5: Knit. Work according to diagrams A.1 and A.2 from the right side as follows: Work 2 edge stitches in GARTER STITCH, work A.1 over 3 stitches, 1 mid-stitch in stocking stitch, A.2 over 3 stitches and work 2 edge stitches in GARTER STITCH. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When the diagrams have been worked 1 time in height there are 29 stitches on the needle. Work according to diagrams A.3-A.8 from the right side as follows: Work 2 edge stitches in GARTER STITCH, A.3 over 1 stitch, A.4 over 10 stitches (1 time in width), work A.5 over 1 stitch, 1 mid-stitch in stocking stitch, A.6 over 1 stitch, A.7 over 10 stitches (1 time in width), A.8 over 1 stitch and 2 edge stitches in GARTER STITCH. When the diagrams have been worked 1 time in height there are 89 stitches on needle (= 60 stitches increased). Continue working according to diagrams A.3-A.8, but each time they are worked 1 time in height there is room for 3 more repeats in width of A.4 between A.3/A.5 and 3 more repeats of A.7 between A.6/A.8. Work according to diagrams A.3-A.8 until you have worked them a total of 5 times in height; the piece measures approx. 66 cm measured along the mid-stitch and there are a total of 329 stitches on needle. Knit 1 row from the right side and increase as before. Knit 1 row from the wrong side and increase as before. CASTING OFF: Cut 1 extra strand of Kid-Silk approx. 4 metres in length and use this + the 2 other strands to cast off. Cast off with knit and make sure the cast-off edge is not tight. Cut and fasten strands. |
