------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- FLOWERS AND BUTTERFLY – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: There are 4 different flowers. Flower 1: The petals are worked with 6 chain stitches and a back-stitch knot in the middle. The stem is worked with back stitch and the leaves with chain stitch. Flower 2: The petals are worked with 4 chain stitches and the middle is made up of 4 French knots. The stem is worked with back stitch. Flowers 3 and 4: The buds are worked with chain stitch. The stem is worked with back stitch and the leaves with chain stitch. The butterfly is worked with chain stitch for the wings and flat stitch for the body. FLOWER 1: If all the flowers are to stand in a row, the start of this flower is approx. 10.5 cm further up. Start with the middle of the flower, working a back-stitch knot in colour cranberry - see diagram A and diagram explanation – the knot should be approx. 1 cm in diameter. Then work 6 chain stitches around the knot with a double strand and colour curry - see diagram B and diagram explanation; each stitch should be 1.5 – 2 cm long. STEM FOR FLOWER 1: Work back stitch with colour sea green - see diagram C and diagram explanation – the stem should be approx. 9 cm long and the stitches approx. 1.5 cm long. LEAVES FOR FLOWER 1: Work chain stitches on the stem with colour sea green - see diagram B and diagram explanation; 1 chain stitch on the right side, 2 cm up the stem and 1 chain stitch on the left side, 5 cm up the stem – both stitches are worked slightly diagonally up. Cut and fasten the strands. FLOWER 2: If all the flowers are to stand in a row the start of this flower is approx. 10 cm further up. Start with the middle of the flower, working 4 French knots with colour cranberry - see diagram D and diagram explanation – the knots are worked close together to give a diameter of approx. 2 cm. Work 4 chain stitches around the bottom of the knots with colour dusty pink and double strand - see diagram B and diagram explanation; each stitch should be approx. 2 – 2.5 cm long, pointing downwards and a little outwards. Cut and fasten the strands. STEM FOR FLOWER 2: Work back stitch with colour sea green - see diagram C and diagram explanation. The stem should be approx. 7.5 cm long and the stitches approx. 1.5 cm long. FLOWER 3: If all the flowers are to stand in a row the start of this flower is approx. 8.5 cm further up. Start with the buds and colour cranberry. Work 3 chain stitches, all starting from the same hole - see diagram B and diagram explanation. The stitches should be approx. 1.5 cm long and close together – approx. 0.5 stitches between each one. Now work the underside of the bud with colour sea green as follows: Skip to 1 cm below the bud and work 3 chain stitches, pointing upwards – the end of the stitches should be close to the chain stitches on the bud. STEM FOR FLOWER 3: Start by working back stitch with colour sea green - see diagram C and diagram explanation. The stem should be approx. 4.5 cm long and the stitches approx. 1 cm long. LEAVES FOR FLOWER 3: Work chain stitches with colour sea green - see diagram B and diagram explanation. Work the stitches 1, 2 and 3 cm up on the left side of the stem; all stitches pointing slightly diagonally upwards. Cut and fasten the strands. FLOWER 4: If all the flowers are to stand in a row the start of this flower is approx. 8.5 cm further up. Start with the buds and colour cranberry. Work 3 chain stitches, all starting from the same hole - see diagram B and diagram explanation. The stitches should be approx. 1.5 cm long and close together – approx. 0.5 stitches between each one. Now work the underside of the bud with colour sea green as follows: Skip to 1 cm below the bud and work 3 chain stitches, pointing upwards – the end of the stitches should be close to the chain stitches on the bud. STEM FOR FLOWER 4: Work back stitch with colour sea green as follows - see diagram C and diagram explanation. The stem should be approx. 7.5 cm long and the stitches approx. 1.5 cm long. LEAVES FOR FLOWER 4: Work chain stitches with colour sea green - see diagram B and diagram explanation. Work 1 stitch 3 cm up on the left side of the stem and 2 stitches 4 and 6 cm up on the right side of the stem; all stitches pointing slightly diagonally upwards. Cut and fasten the strands. BUTTERFLY: Start approx. 4 – 4.5 cm over FLOWER 3. WINGS: Use 1 strand colour light jeans blue and work chain stitches, all starting from the same hole. BACK WINGS: Work 2 chain stitches of 1 cm in length, pointing slightly diagonally out and downwards and approx. 2 cm from each other - see diagram B and diagram explanation. FRONT WINGS: Work 2 chain stitches of 1.5 cm in length, pointing slightly diagonally out and upwards and approx. 2.5 cm from each other. BODY: Use 1 strand of colour unicorn and work a flat stitch over the wings, down the middle of the butterfly. The stitches should be approx. 2 cm long - see diagram E and diagram explanation. |
