Hello I am calling myself a beginner going on to the next level. I am ok on the pattern - left mittens until you get to the 7-8 cm, I have the 7-9 stiches on thread, it's the casting on 5-7 stictes that I think I goobered up. I am think it is not meant to add the new sticthes all at once... It looks ahh interesting. How should one do that so the transtion is smooth please? Thank you

Dear Ellen, in this pattern the thumb will not be worked with increases for a gusset but as shown in this video, ie slip sts on a thread for thumb opening then or as here work them with another yarn then cast on new stitches over stitches on the thread then thumb will be worked around opening afterwards. You will find more patterns for mittens with a thumb gusset, check all patterns here. Happy knitting!

Hei Karla. Om du har en veldig liten/kort rundpinne til å få alle maskene på en rundpinne, kan du fint bytte. Men du må uansett bytte til settpinner når det felles mot slutten. mvh DROPS Design

------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- MITTENS – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The mittens are worked in the round with double pointed needles. LEFT MITTEN: Cast on 28-30 stitches with double pointed needles size 6 mm and 1 strand DROPS Wish or 2 strands DROPS Air. Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 14 cm – or to desired length. THE PIECE IS NOW MEASURED FROM HERE! Change to double pointed needles size 7 mm and knit 1 round where you decrease 4 stitches evenly on the round = 24-26 stitches. Insert a marker in the 21st-22nd stitch and allow it to follow your work onwards. When the piece measures 2 cm, increase 1 stitch on each side of the marker-stitch (by making 1 yarn over which is knitted twisted on the next round) = 26-28 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When the piece measures 7-8 cm, work the opening for the thumb on the next round as follows: Work 18-18 stitches as before, place the next 7-9 stitches on a thread without working them, cast on 5-7 new stitches and work the last stitch on the round = 24-26 stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 19-20 cm. There is approx. 3 cm left; try the mitten on and work to desired length. On the next round decrease 6-6 stitches evenly spaced (knit together approx. each 3rd and 4th stitch) = 18-20 stitches. Work 2 rounds without decreasing. On the next 2 rounds knit all stitches together 2 and 2 on both rounds = 5-5 stitches. Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. The mitten measures approx. 36-37 cm with rib and 22-23 cm without. THUMB: Place the 7-9 stitches from the thread back on double pointed needles size 7 mm and knit up 5-7 new stitches around the opening = 12-16 stitches. Work stocking stitch in the round – AT THE SAME TIME on the first round decrease 0-2 stitches evenly spaced = 12-14 stitches. Work until the thumb measures 6-7 cm. There is approx. 1 cm left; try the mitten on and work to desired length. Work 2 rounds where you knit all stitches together 2 and 2 on both rounds = 3-4 stitches. The thumb measures approx. 7-8 cm. RIGHT MITTEN: Cast on 28-30 stitches with double pointed needles size 6 mm and 1 strand DROPS Wish or 2 strands DROPS Air. Insert a marker in the 4th-5th stitch and allow it to follow your work onwards. When the piece measures 2 cm, increase 1 stitch on each side of the marker-stitch (by making 1 yarn over which is knitted twisted on the next round) = 26-28 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch.
