How to read a schematic drawing

You will find the schematic drawing for each garment below the patterns. It will have all the measurement for each size we have in this pattern. If you follow the pattern and keep the tension/gauge the garment will have the same size as the schematic drawing.

If you think it is hard to decide what size to make, if can be a good idea to measure a sweater you have and like the size of. Then you can pick the size by looking at the schematic drawing and find the correct size there.

If your sweater is approx 60 cm/23½" in length, the chest circumference is 96 cm/37 3/4" and the hip circumference is 108 cm. Then this will be equivalent to size L in this schematic drawing.

Circumference at the bottom = 54 cm/21 1/4" x 2 = 108 cm/42½" all the way round!

Chest circumference = 48 cm/19" x 2 = 96 cm/37 3/4" all the way around the chest!

Hi thanks for replying but this pattern starts at chest-55cmx2 is 110cm same as 43 1/4 inch chest. Next size is 120cm- 47 1/4 inch chest which is big jump. What do I do? Chest size is only important measurement.

13.01.2022 - 21:13

DROPS Design answered:

Dear Mary, maybe you can measure a jumper you (or the person who will wear the garment) have and like the shape? This might help finding the appropriate size. Happy knitting!

Hei Hanna. Nei, beklager. Mange gamle oppskriften går bare opp til str. M/L.

Hello, my question is about binding off the sleeve cap in Quiet Lake Kids. After initial bind off instructions, it continues as follows: "...then (bind off) 2 sts each side until piece measures xxx cm..." Does this mean bind off 2 sts once then continue in pattern (stockinette)? Or does it really mean binding off indefinitely, at the beginning of every row, until the piece measures the correct length? Thank you very much. JOD

14.12.2021 - 22:27

DROPS Design answered:

Dear Mrs O Donovna, you will have to cast off 2 stitches at the beginning of every row (both from RS and from WS) until the piece measures the correct length - just make sure you cast off the same number of sts on each side to make the sleve cap symmetrical. Happy knitting!

Jeg måler 114 over hoften og 104 over brystet..

Hello, I have a question, in the schematic drawing, what is that size "15-16-17" above? And the sleeve, from where it start the measurement, since I read numbers like 73-74-75 etc..? (it looks too long to be a sleeve). Also, together the numbers 15-16-17 near the neck there's again repeated another 15-16-17) . please can you explain? Thank you!

26.10.2021 - 16:12

DROPS Design answered:

Dear Valex, 15-16-17 are the cm for the neck. 73-74-75 are from the shoulder to the end of the sleeve. These are all aproximate measurements. This is just an example, you'd need to look at the measurements in each model, in the diagram below the pattern. You should also try the length of the garnment frequently, to adapt it for your desired length. Happy knitting!

DROPS Design answered:

Dear Rosemary, 40 inches are approx. 50 cm measured flat, size L is 48 cm and XL 55 cm, choose the size depending on how you prefer it to be somewhat tighter or somewhat looser. Hope this will help, happy knitting!

Hei Vibeke.

I am struggling with size to choose for drops 169-11. My hips are 44" Bust 42" waist 43". I originally started XL and added 30 sts as my gauge is 5 sts to inch. When I got the ribbing done it was too large by 3 1/2". I tore it out. Please give me some advise so I can start over.

24.08.2021 - 17:05

DROPS Design answered:

Dear Mrs Syrjala, measure a similar garment you have and like the shape and then compare with the measurements in each size to find the right size. But remember this jacket is worked with a tension of 24 sts = 10 cm, if your tension is different, you will have to adjust the whole pattern - read more here. Or maybe find a pattern that fits your tension. Happy knitting!
