How to bind off an elastic edge with yarn over

In this DROPS video we show one way to bind off with yarn over so that you get an elastic edge. We show both how we bind off over knit stitch and purl stitch.

Knit the 1st stitch, make a yarn over, but an opposite yarn over (from back to front), knit the next stitch = 2 stitches + 1 yarn over on the right needle. With the left needle lift the yarn over and the 1st worked stitch over the last stitch = 1 stitch on the right needle.

The next stitch is a purl stitch and work as follows: Make an ordinary yarn over, purl 1. Lift the yarn over and the 1st worked stitch over the last stitch = 1 stitch on the right needle. Make a new ordinary yarn over, purl 1. Lift the yarn over and the 1st worked stitch over the last stitch = 1 stitch on the right needle.

Repeat the description above the entire row, with opposite yarn over when knitting and ordinary yarn over when purling. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video.

Witaj Kasiu! Możesz spróbować naciągnąć lekko robótkę w tym miejscu, albo lekko powyciągać nitki za pomocą szydełka. Z całą pewnością po upraniu (zgodnie z tym co widnieje na etykiecie produktu) feler powinien zniknąć. Pozdrawiamy!

In this DROPS video we show how to do an Italian cast off to a rib with knit 1 / purl 1 by sewing the cast off edge with needle and thread. With this technique we get an elastic cast off that is perfect for example on toe up socks, edge around neck, a shawl edge or sleeve edges when working top down. Cut yarn long enough for your cast off, approx 3-4 times the length of the edge you are casting off. Part 1: Start from the right side (the first stitch should be a knit stitch). Insert the needle into the 1st stitch as if to knit, lift the stitch off the needle, insert the needle into the 2nd stitch on the left needle (= knit stitch) as if to purl. Pull the thread through these 2 stitches (= 1 stitch cast off). Part 2: Insert the needle into the 1st stitch (purl stitch) as if to purl and lift the stitch off the needle, then insert the needle from the back side between the 1st and 2nd stitches and insert the needle through the 2nd stitch (purl stitch) as if to knit, pull the thread completely through the 2 stitches. Repeat Part 1 and Part 2 until all the stitches have been cast off. For each time Part 1 and Part 2 have been completed, 1 stitch is cast off. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video. In this DROPS video we show how to do an Italian cast off in a piece work with Knit 2 Purl 2. Before starting the cast off, work 1 round where 2 knit - 2 purl becomes 1 knit - 1 purl. Cut yarn long enough for your cast off, approx 4 times the length of the edge you are casting off. 1) Insert the needle into the 1st stitch (knit stitch) as if to knit and slip the stitch of needle. 2) Insert needle into 2nd stitch (knit stitch) as if to purl. 3) Insert needle into 1st stitch (purl stitch) as if to purl, lift the stitch off (the thread is now at the back of the work). From the back, insert the needle between 1st and 2nd stitches. 4) From the front, insert the needle into the purl stitch (2nd stitch). Repeat from the beginning. In this DROPS video we show how we cast off with an i-cord edge in a piece worked in garter stitches / ridge stitches. Cast on 2 stitches, knit up 1 stitch in the outermost loop of the bottom ridge = 3 stitches on the needle. *Push the stitches back to the beginning of the needle and work again from the right side without turning. Knit 2, slip the next stitch as if to knit, knit up a new stitch in the next ridge on the hood, pass the slipped stitch over the knitted-up stitch *, work from *-* until an edge has been worked. Knit up 1 stitch in each ridge, if this makes the edge tight, knit up 1 more stitch evenly (we have knitted 2 extra stitches in this piece). Knit together the last 3 stitches on the row.
