EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN:

----------------------------------------------------------

GARTER STITCH (back and forth):
1 ridge = knit 2 rows.

----------------------------------------------------------

START THE PIECE HERE:

----------------------------------------------------------

HEAD BAND - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE GARMENT:
Work head band back and forth across and sew together mid back.

HEAD BAND:
Cast on 35 stitches on needle size 3.5 mm with Puna. Work rib as follows from right side: 1 stitch in GARTER STITCH - read explanation above, rib (= knit 1/purl 1), until 2 stitches remain, knit 1 and 1 stitch in garter stitch. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION!
When piece measures 20-21-22 cm, divide the piece into 2 parts for cable, i.e. work next row as follows from right side: Work the first 17 stitches and slip stitches on a stitch holder, knit 2 together (= 1 stitch decreased), work the remaining 16 stitches = 17 stitches on needle. Each part is now worked separately like this: 1 stitch in garter stitch, work rib as before over the next 15 stitches, 1 stitch in garter stitch. Continue for 9 cm - finish from right side, cut the yarn and slip stitches on another stitch holder.
Work the 17 stitches from the other stitch holder the same way – finish from right side but do not cut the yarn! Place the piece to the right over the piece to the left so that they cross one another and place all stitches back on the needle.
Work from wrong side over the first 16 stitches as before, work 2 stitches in the next stitch (=1 stitch increased), then work rib over the last 17 stitches (the garter stitches in the middle are now worked in rib) = 35 stitches on needle. Continue with rib and in garter stitch until piece measures 49-51-53 cm. Cast off stitches with knit over knit and purl over purl.

ASSEMBLY:
Sew cast-on edge together with cast-off edge in outer loops of edge stitches.

Buon lavoro!

Esra 12.01.2019 - 19:14:

I don't understand what 1 garter stitch in each end means... Garter stitch consists of two knitted rows right? "rib (= knit 1/purl 1), until 2 stitches remain, knit 1 and 1 stitch in garter stitch." I especially did not understand this part... I would appreciate it if the pattern was comprehensible. I love this headband and would love to make one! Thanks!

DROPS Design 14.01.2019 kl. 10:23:

Dear Esra, this video below is showing how to work 1 edge stitch in garter stitch on each side, ie from RS work: K1 (= edge st), work then rib K1/P1 until 1 st remain and finish with K1 (= edge st). From WS knit the first and the last stitch and work the remaining sts in rib (= K over K and P over P). Happy knitting!

Barbara Scott 20.12.2018 - 23:08:

The photograph seems to show a head band knitted in a rib stitch. The patterns says knit in garter stitch. Is this a mistake?

DROPS Design 21.12.2018 kl. 07:54:

Hi Barbara. According to the pattern you work 1 garter stitch in each end, and the remaining stitches are worked in rib (= knit 1/purl 1). Happy knitting
