Pattern instructions

NOTE: This pattern is written in British English. All measurements in charts are in cm. For conversion from cm to inches - click here. GARTER ST (back and forth on needle): K all rows.

When turning mid piece, slip first st. Tighten thread and continue as before. This is done to avoid holes in the transitions.

Cast on 32 sts on needle size 6 mm with 1 thread Ice or 2 threads Paris and work in garter st, AT THE SAME TIME work turns as follows - read KNITTING TIP above - * 1 row over the 29 sts, turn and work back, 1 row over the first 26 sts, turn and work back, 1 row over the first 23 sts, turn and work back, 1 row over all sts, turn and work back. * Repeat from *-* until 136 rows have been worked (= 68 ridges (1 ridge = 2 rows in garter st)) over the first sts on needle (= a total of 17 repetitions with turns have been worked). Cast off.

Assembly: Sew tog the cast on and cast off edge. Fold down the upper edge.

Bon tricot!

Renee Haralson 10.08.2018 - 19:45:

The answer "will work short rows as follows : *2 rows over 29 sts, 2 rows over 26 sts, 2 rows over 23 sts, 2 rows over all sts* and repeat this all the way." isn't really clearing up the question. I watched the video and the pattern doesn't seem to do what the video does. When do you actually knit all the way across? Maybe it would help to include Wrong side/right side notation?

DROPS Design 13.08.2018 kl. 09:06:

Dear Mrs Haralson, the video is only showing how to work short rows (basic method), ie the sample is not showing how to work this corb, only how to work over a few sts to create the desired shape. Work the short rows as explained in the pattern knitting 2 rows over the first 29 sts, 2 rows over the first 26 stsf, 2 rows over the first 23 sts, 2 rows over all sts = you have worked 8 rows over the first sts on the right side seen from RS and only 2 rows over the sts on the left side seen from RS. Happy knitting!

The Hole At The Bottom? 18.09.2016 - 20:35:

I'm having an open hole center bottom when the piece is complete. Can you suggest my mistake? Thank you!

DROPS Design 19.09.2016 kl. 09:51:

Hello, You can simply thread a strand in the edge sts then tighten tog to close the hole. Happy assembly!

FeeDee Langrehr 31.07.2015 - 20:24:

I've read all the comments and re-read the pattern many times and I'm still a bit confused. After CO 32 stitches do we do short rows every row? For instance, CO 32, turn work, garter stitch 26 sts, turn work, garter stitch 23 sts and so on? Or do we do a short row every 3 rows?

DROPS Design 01.08.2015 kl. 10:46:

Dear Mrs Langrehr, you cast on 32 sts then work short rows (see video below): *2 rows over 29 sts, 2 rows over 26 sts, 2 rows 23 sts, 2 rows over all sts* repeat from *-*. Happy knitting!

Jane 02.11.2014 - 19:22:

I would like to also make a smaller version. How would I adjust the dimensions?

DROPS Design 03.11.2014 kl. 09:34:

Dear Jane, you can recalculate number of sts depending of the size you like to or use a thiner yarn (you would then have to use tighter needles to get a firm fabric). Remember you can get tips & advice from your DROPS store, they will help you by mail or telephone. Happy knitting!

Arlene 08.08.2013 - 23:13:

This pattern is confusing, I believe you omitted the word first here: - * 1 row over the 29 sts, turn and work back, - should it read first 29 stitches? When you work back are you knitting all stitches or just to the 29, etc. for rows with 26 and 23, all the way back or just to the 26 and 23?

DROPS Design 09.08.2013 kl. 09:31:

Dear Arlene, you will work short rows as follows : *2 rows over 29 sts, 2 rows over 26 sts, 2 rows over 23 sts, 2 rows over all sts* and repeat this all the way. Happy knitting!
