See diagram M.1 - diagram worked in stocking st and shows 1 pattern repeat.

Worked in the round. Cast on 36 sts on double pointed needles size 3.5 mm with medium brown. Work rib, K3 / P3 for 8 cm. Change to double pointed needles size 4.5 mm and continue in M.1 (= 3 repeats across the round) – AT THE SAME TIME after 5 rounds of M.1 inc to thumb gusset by making 1 YO each side of last st on round – on next round K YO into back of loop to avoid a hole – repeat the inc on every other round with 2 more sts between the 2 YO for each inc a total of 5 times (work all inc sts in medium brown). After all inc are complete there are 11 thumb sts and a total of 46 sts on needle. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION!
When piece measures a total of 14 cm slip the 11 thumb-sts on a stitch holder and cast on 1 new st over these = 36 sts.
After M.1 complete mitten in red. When piece measures 24 cm insert 6 markers in piece with 6 sts between each. On next round dec 1 st by each marker by K2 tog after all markers. Repeat the dec on every other round a total of 4 times = 12 sts. K2 tog on next round. Cut the thread and pull it through remaining sts, tighten tog and fasten Mitten measures a total of approx 28 cm.

THUMB: Slip the 11 sts over thumb gusset on double pointed needles size 4.5 mm and pick up 3 sts in the edge behind thumb sts = 14 sts. Work stocking st in the round with medium brown for 6 cm, then K2 tog across the round. Cut the thread and pull it through remaining 7 sts, tighten tog and fasten.

Like left mitten, but inc for thumb gusset each side of first st on round.
