Pattern instructions

NOTE: This pattern is written in British English. All measurements in charts are in cm. For conversion from cm to inches - click here. There are different terms for crocheting in British and American English. If this pattern includes crochet, click for "crochet terms" here. For this pattern in American English, please click here.
Crochet pattern: See diagram M.1 – diagram shows 2 repeats of pattern.
Beg on second row on the right side of diagram, and then work 13-14-15-16 repeats across the row and finish with the sts on the left side of diagram (outside the box).
Note: On round 2 in the first 2 vertical fan-patterns and on round 3 in the last 2 vertical fan-patterns and on round 7 in all vertical fan-patterns, work ch until pattern repeat starts.
Crochet info: Replace first dc on round with 1 ch and replace first tr with 3 ch. Finish each round with 1 sl st in first dc/tr from beg of round.

Poncho: Knitted and crochet from the top down.
Neck: Loosely cast on 84-90-96-102 sts on small circular needle size 4 mm with 2 threads Alpaca. Work rib, K2/P4 for 10 cm. Cast off loosely.
Yoke: With 2 threads Alpaca and crochet hook size 5 mm crochet 1 dc in each st on cast off row = 84-90-96-102 dc
Work next round as follows: 3 ch (replaces 1 tr), * 1 ch, 1 tr in next dc *, repeat from *-*, and finish round with 1 ch and 1 sl st in 3rd ch from beg of round = 84-90-96-102 tr on round. Now continue in M.1 – see explanation above (= 14-15-16-17 repeats across the round) – see Crochet info! After 1 vertical repeat of diagram (= 4 vertical fan patterns) work fan pattern 4 again, but only work to row marked with an arrow in diagram. Cut the thread and fasten. The crochet part measures approx 35 cm.

Skirt: Worked in the round on circular needle from the waist/top down.
Cast on 120-144-174-204 sts on needle size 4 mm with 2 threads Alpaca. Work rib, K2/P4, until piece measures 24-26-28-30 cm. Remember the knitting tension!
On next round inc every other P-section to P5 – inc in the first P st by picking up st from previous round and P this. Continue in rib. When piece measures 29-31-33-35 cm inc the remaining P-sections to P5 in the same way = 140-168-203-238 sts. Continue in rib, K2/P5. When piece measures 34-36-38-40 cm inc every other P-section to P6 – inc in the last P st by picking up st from previous round and P this. Continue in rib. When piece measures 39-41-43-45 cm inc the remaining P-sections to P6 in the same way = 160-192-232-272 sts. Continue in rib, K2/P6. When piece measures 44-46-48-50 cm cast off loosely in rib.
To make the skirt stay up under your chest, thread a thin elastic ribbon up and down in cast on row.

Rachael 10.09.2016 - 18:01:

Is there a written pattern explaining this please?

DROPS Design 12.09.2016 kl. 10:19:

Dear Rachael, there is only diagram to the poncho. Each symbol represents 1 st /1 group of st as explained under diagram text. Start reading diagram from the bottom corner on the right side on every round and repeat diagram as shown. Happy crocheting!

Amy 06.09.2016 - 16:37:

Please clarify: Does "two threads" mean that I should hold two strands of yarn together? Or is it referring to 2-ply yarn?

DROPS Design 06.09.2016 kl. 17:02:

Dear Amy, you have to use two strands of Alpaca held together. Happy knitting!

Daniela 19.01.2014 - 15:17:

Hallo! Was habe ich falsch gemacht?

Allison 05.08.2013 - 22:40:

Hi there, I love this pattern! Just a few queries: To get gauge I ended up having to use a 3.5mm which is alarmingly different. Does this mean the lace work will end being much smaller? Will it still fit around my body? Also, in the chart there is a symbol like a V. Can you tell me what this stands for? I can't seem to find it in your chart symbols or any other websites. Thanks, Allison

DROPS Design 06.08.2013 kl. 10:42:

Dear Allison, depending on how each crocheter works, crochet hook size is only a guide and must be adjusted to get the recommanded tension. Crochet gauge is 20 tr(UK)/dc(US) with 2 threads Alpaca = 10 cm. The "V" st in diagram is explained above measurement chart and means "2 tr(uk)/dc(us) in 1 tr(uk)/dc(us)". Happy crocheting!

Haldis 14.10.2011 - 01:37:

Hei!
