Pattern instructions

NOTE: This pattern is written in British English. All measurements in charts are in cm. For conversion from cm to inches - click here. Pattern: See diagram M.1 – the entire pattern is worked in stocking st. Note: Make sure the threads are fairly loose on WS when working pattern in several colours, otherwise they’ll felt more than the rest of the bag.

Bag: Worked back and forth on circular needle. Beg at the top on front piece.
Cast on 35 sts (includes 1 edge st each side) with tan on circular needle size 9 mm with Eskimo. Work stocking st. Remember the knitting tension! When piece measures 8 cm inc 1 st each side and repeat the inc on every 11 cm a total of 5 times = 45 sts. Insert a Marking Thread (MT) when piece measures 61 cm (bottom of bag). When piece measures 9 cm from MT dec 1 st each side and repeat the dec on every 11 cm a total of 5 times = 35 sts.
At the same time when piece measures 10 cm continue as follows: stocking st on the first 9 sts, M.1 – see above – on the next 25 sts, stocking st on the remaining 9 sts. Continue in pattern like this + the dec. Cast off when piece measures 61 cm from MT.

Assembly: Sew side seams.

Shoulder strap: Pick up 8 sts on needle size 9 mm with tan at one side of bag. Work stocking st back and forth for 100 cm, cast off and attach strap to the other side of bag.

Felting: Put the bag in the washing machine with a powder free of enzymes and optical bleach. Wash at 40 degrees without pre-wash and with normal spin. After wash shape the bag and leave to dry flat. At subsequent washes, wash the bag at a wool programme.
