------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge in height = Knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.3. Choose diagram for your size (applies to A.2 and A.3). The diagrams show all rows in the pattern from the right side. DECREASE/INCREASE TIP (evenly spaced): To work out how to decrease/increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on needle (e.g. 203 stitches), minus the bands (e.g. 10 stitches) and divide the remaining stitches by the number of decreases/increases to be made (e.g. 18) = 10.7. In this example, decrease by knitting together approx. each 10th and 11th stitch. Do not decrease on the bands. When increasing, make 1 yarn over after approx. each 11th stitch. On the next row/round work the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. INCREASE TIP (for sleeves): Start 2 stitches before the marker thread, 1 yarn over, knit 4 (marker thread sits between these 4 stitches), 1 yarn over. On the next round knit the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. Then work the new stitches in stockinette stitch. BUTTONHOLES: Work buttonholes on the right band (when the garment is worn). 1 BUTTONHOLE = knit the third and forth stitch from the edge together and make 1 yarn over. On the next row knit the yarn over to leave a hole. Work the buttonholes when the piece measures: XS: 9, 18, 27 and 36 cm = 3½", 7", 10⅝" and 14¼". S: 11, 20, 29 and 38 cm = 4⅜", 8", 11⅜" and 15". M: 10, 18, 26, 34 and 42 cm = 4", 7", 10¼", 13⅜" and 16½". L: 11, 19, 27, 35 and 43 cm = 4⅜", 7½", 10⅝", 13¾" and 17". XL: 8, 17, 26, 35 and 44 cm = 3⅛", 6¾", 10¼", 13¾" and 17¼". XXL: 10, 19, 28, 37 and 46 cm = 4", 7½", 11", 14½" and 18". The last buttonhole (not described here) is worked on the neck. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The body is worked back and forth with circular needle, from mid front and bottom up as far as the armholes. The sleeves are worked in the round with double pointed needles/short circular needle, bottom up. The body and sleeves are worked together and the yoke is finished back and forth with circular needle. BODY: Cast on 203-221-239-257-279-305 stitches (including 5 band stitches on each side towards mid front) with circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4 and Cotton Merino or Merino Extra Fine. Purl 1 row (= wrong side). The next row is worked as follows from the right side: 5 band stitches in GARTER STITCH – read description above, * knit 1, purl 1 *, work from *-* until there are 6 stitches left on the row, knit 1 and finish with 5 band stitches in garter stitch. Continue this rib back and forth for 3 cm = 1⅛". Change to circular needle size 4.5 MM = US 7. Knit 1 row from the right side where you decrease 18-20-22-24-26-28 stitches evenly spaced – read DECREASE/INCREASE TIP = 185-201-217-233-253-277 stitches. Purl 1 row from the wrong side (bands knitted and yarn overs purled twisted). Continue with stockinette stitch and 5 band stitches in garter stitch on each side – REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE and the BUTTONHOLES on the right band – read description above. When the piece measures 25-28-28-28-28-28 cm = 9¾"-11"-11"-11"-11"-11", bind off for the armholes on the next row as follows: Work 46-50-53-57-61-67 stitches as before (= front piece), bind off 6-6-8-8-10-10 stitches, work 81-89-95-103-111-123 stitches (= back piece), bind off 6-6-8-8-10-10 stitches and work the last 46-50-53-57-61-67 stitches as before (= front piece). Lay the piece to one side and work the sleeves. SLEEVES: Cast on 44-46-48-50-52-54 stitches with double pointed needles size 3.5 MM = US 4 and Cotton Merino or Merino Extra Fine. Knit 1 round. Then work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 10 cm = 4". Change to double pointed needles size 4.5 MM = US 7. Knit 1 round where you increase 6 stitches evenly spaced in all sizes – read DECREASE/INCREASE TIP = 50-52-54-56-58-60 stitches. Insert 1 marker thread at the beginning of the round = mid under sleeve. Allow the thread to follow your work onwards, it is used when increasing under the sleeve. Work stockinette stitch. When the piece measures 12-12-12-13-12-14 cm = 4¾"-4¾"-4¾"-5⅛"-4¾"-5½", increase 2 stitches under the sleeve – read INCREASE TIP. Increase like this every 5-4½-3½-2½-2-1½ cm = 2"-1⅝"-1¼"-1"-¾"-½" a total of 7-8-9-12-15-16 times = 64-68-72-80-88-92 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 44-45-44-44-42-41 cm = 17¼"-17¾"-17¼"-17¼"-16½"-16⅛" (shorter measurements in larger sizes, due to wider neck and longer yoke). On the next round bind off for the armhole as follows: Bind off 3-3-4-4-5-5 stitches, work 58-62-64-72-78-82 stitches in stockinette stitch and bind off the last 3-3-4-4-5-5 stitches. Cut the strand and pull it through the last stitch. Work the other sleeve in the same way. YOKE: Place the sleeves on the same circular needle size 4.5 MM = US 7 as the body, where stitches were bind off for the armholes (without working the stitches) = 289-313-329-361-389-421 stitches on the needle. Insert 1 marker on the row – the yoke is measured from this marker. Work stockinette stitch back and forth with 5 band stitches in garter stitch on each side for 2-2-3-1-3-4 cm = ¾"-¾"-1⅛"-⅜"-1⅛"-1½" – AT THE SAME TIME on the first row from the right side decrease 4-8-2-14-0-10 stitches evenly spaced = 285-305-327-347-389-411 stitches. Then work the next row from the right side as follows: 5 band stitches in garter stitch, work A.1A until there are 6 stitches left on the row, work A.1B (= 1 stitch) and finish with 5 band stitches in garter stitch. Continue this pattern and decrease 1-0-1-0-0-1 stitch on the last row = 284-305-326-347-389-410 stitches. When A.1 has been completed in height, work the next row as follows from the right side: 5 band stitches in garter stitch, work A.2A until there are 6 stitches left on the row (= 13-14-15-16-18-19 repeats of 21 stitches), work A.2B (= 1 stitch) and finish with 5 band stitches in garter stitch. Continue this pattern and decrease as shown in the diagram. When you have worked as far as the row marked with an arrow in A.2A there are 193-207-221-235-263-277 stitches on the needle. On the row marked with an arrow in A.2A decrease 13-14-15-14-28-28 stitches evenly spaced = 180-193-206-221-235-249 stitches. When A.2 has been completed in height, work the next row as follows from the right side: 5 band stitches in garter stitch, work A.3A until there are 6 stitches left on the row (= 13-14-15-15-16-17 repeats of 13-13-13-14-14-14 stitches), work 1 stitch in stockinette stitch and 5 band stitches in garter stitch. Continue this pattern and decrease as shown in the diagram. When A.3 has been completed, there are 128-137-146-146-155-164 stitches on the needle and the piece measures approx. 19-19-20-22-24-25 cm = 7½"-7½"-8"-8¾"-9½"-9¾" from the marker. Continue with stockinette stitch until the yoke measures 19-19-21-22-24-26 cm = 7½"-7½"-8¼"-8¾"-9½"-10¼" from the marker. Knit 1 row from the right side where you decrease 27-32-41-33-37-42 stitches evenly spaced = 101-105-105-113-118-122 stitches. NECK: Change to circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4. The first row is worked as follows from the wrong side: 5 band stitches in garter stitch, * purl 1, knit 1 *, work from *-* until there are 6 stitches left on the row, purl 1 and 5 band stitches in garter stitch. Continue this rib back and forth, working the last buttonhole on the right band when the neck measures 1 cm = ⅜". When the neck measures 3 cm = 1⅛" bind off with garter stitch over garter stitch, knit over knit and purl over purl. The jacket measures approx. 47-50-52-54-56-58 cm = 18½"-19¾"-20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾" from the shoulder down. ASSEMBLY: Sew the openings under the sleeves. Sew the buttons onto the left band. |
