Can you please clarify how to divide the round piece and how to continue back and forth? Is there a video on this? Thank you. Annamaria

Dear Annamaria, to divide the slipper, start working in the marker in the center of the slipper, work one row up to the other side of the marker, turn and work back from the wrong side. Happy knitting!

Bon tricot!

Hello. I love your patterns and would like to knit some felted slippers but I have never used double pointed needles. Is it possible to use a small circular needle instead for this pattern? Thank you.
04.09.2022 - 19:05DROPS Design answered:
Dear Caroline, you can work with a small circular needle or two regular circular needles, whichever is more comfortable for the number of stitches in this pattern. You can check the following video for more help: https://www.garnstudio.com/video.php?id=97&lang=en. Happy knitting!

Buon lavoro!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge = Knit 2 rows. INCREASE TIP-1: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over. On the next round knit the yarn over twisted to avoid a hole. INCREASE TIP-2: Work until there is 1 stitch left before the marker, make 1 yarn over, work 2 stitches in garter stitch (marker sits between these 2 stitches), 1 yarn over (= 2 stitches increased). On the next round/row work the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. DECREASE TIP: Decrease on both sides of the marker as follows: Work until there are 2 stitches left before the marker, knit 2 together, marker, slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (= 2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SLIPPERS – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with double pointed needles, from the toe. It is then divided mid-top of foot and continued back and forth with circular needle. The slipper is sewn together mid-back and felted in the washing machine to finish. SLIPPER: Cast on 9-10-11-10-11-12-13 stitches with double pointed needles size 5.5 mm and Alaska. Work stocking stitch. AT THE SAME TIME, on the first round, increase 1 stitch after each stitch – read INCREASE TIP-1 = 18-20-22-20-22-24-26 stitches. On the next round insert 2 markers as follows (start of the round = mid-top of foot): Knit 4-5-6-5-6-6-7 stitches, insert 1 marker, knit 10-10-10-10-10-12-12 stitches, insert 1 marker and knit the last 4-5-6-5-6-6-7 stitches. Continue in the round with stocking stitch, AT THE SAME TIME, on the first round, increase 1 stitch on each side of both markers – read INCREASE TIP-2 (= 4 stitches increased). Increase like this every 2nd round a total of 4-4-4-5-5-5-5 times = 34-36-38-40-42-44-46 stitches. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When the piece measures 10-11-11½-13½-15-16-17½ cm, divide the piece at the start of the round and continue back and forth with circular needle and GARTER STITCH – read description above. When you have worked 2 ridges, insert 1 marker inside the outermost 6 stitches on each side. On the next row decrease 1 stitch on each side of both markers – read DECREASE TIP (= 4 stitches decreased) = 30-32-34-36-38-40-42 stitches. Continue with garter stitch until the piece measures 23-24½-27-30-32½-37-40 cm from the cast-on edge. ASSEMBLY: Thread a strand up and down through the cast-on stitches on the toe, pull tight and fasten well. Sew the slipper together at the back, edge to edge so the seam is flat. Work 1 more slipper the same way. FELTING: Place the slippers in the washing machine, using a detergent without enzymes or optical bleaches. Wash at 40 degrees, with a normal centrifuge and without pre-wash. When washed, put the slippers on and form them to the right shape while still wet. Later washes are as for a normal wool-garment. AFTER FELTING: If the piece is not felted enough and is too big: Wash the piece one more time in the washing machine while it is still wet add a terry towel that measures approx. 50 x 70 cm - NOTE: Do not use a short program. If the piece has been felted too much and is too small: While the piece is still wet stretch it to the correct measurements, if the piece is dry, make sure to soak it first. Remember: All subsequent washes are as a normal wool garment. |
